I would save up for something nicer. Personal favorite is the Pacific Coat RPS-3000, also known as the 'octopus' skimmers. They're recirculating and just about equivalent to a good euroreef or deltec, but go for ~$350. Check em out. CoralLife skimmers are also not so bad for the money.

It depends how large the tank is, and what his goals are. It's probably not the worst out there (Prizm) and may suffice, but you can save yourself some headaches by getting a workhorse of a skimmer.

I had/have one and when it was in operation I loved it was very easy to use plug and play if you keep cup clean you will be happy.
I have yet to see a skimmer that puts out such a dry foam,it's like shaving cream. The only con is the Rio pump they burn out better to go with the other one not shure but I thinks its Ocean runner or somthing like that. I have a Aero Foamer and I was more happy with the Turboflotor. I know people will say I nut's but it's the truth!
