Aqua Safe Canada RO opinions?

I have one, TDS reads 0...however their customer service is lacking...I have been trying to cancel an order from them for the last week. They have contacted me, ask me what the problem is, I told them, I have not heard anything either way in three days...I would just buy from someone else...any RO/DI unit will be fine for aquariums, do not let people tell you that you have to buy a name brand...the systems all work the same.

Yeah, I actually have one of their units I got from eBay about two years ago. Their site seems "fishier" (no pun intended) then it did back then, which is why I posted.

well the price is certainly right.

I find that when I use my storage tank to hold water to use later that it has a little bit higher TDS reading than water that has bypassed the tank.

Just somthing to think about.

Any particular reason why you chose to go with them? Aside from the price?

Yeah I got mine a while back as well...I ordered replacement filters from them, before I really checked out the site...you can not call them...They answer e-mails until you want your money back and then it stops, needless to say, I am giving them one more warning and then I am getting a chargeback from my CC company.

Price is the only reason to go with them...there untis do the same as the overly hyped airwaterice one that everyone swears by on here. Now do not get me wrong, but the airwaterice one is made out to be the "god" of RO/DI on here (yes they do work but why spend an extra 70-90 bucks when you can something that does the same thing), when in truth it is no different then any others out there and I am willing to bet, that most of these companies that sell them buy all their stuff from the same place in china.

I chose them awhile back because of price, and well, looked into them now because I purchased form them before. I actually think I may go with the filter guys.

I bought one of their units about 2 years ago. Still working fine. I have replaced the membrane with a 75GPD unit about 6 months ago.

They are a pretty poorly designed unit. For one they use a 100GPD membrane which says made out of Dow materials. That can either be a 90% rejection rate Dow nanofilter or 96% rejection rate Applied Membranes RO. Neither is as good as a true 75 GPD 98% rejection rate Dow Filmtec RO membrane. Next it uses a granular activated carbon filter that is not desireable for reef use, it passes carbon fines on and has a low capacity for chlorine and volatile adsorption. A 1 micron or better yet 0.5 micron carbon block is what you want before the RO membrane, they will adsorb up to 20,000 gallons worth of chlorine. Third it uses a hollow horizontal tube as a DI and it only holds 16 oz of resin. A good vertical canister just like the one the pre and carn=bon filters is what you want for several reasons. It has much better flow characteristics so all resin comes in contact with the water since it flows from the bottom up and is filled completly. There is no short circuiting so resin gets sued evenly and completely. They also hold a refillable cartridge that in turn holds a full 24 oz of resin for longer resin life. Their claim of a year out of 12 oz is completely bogus unless you have almost perfect water to begin with and you only make very little water.

Clouded, they don't do the same thing at all. You will never ever see the water quality out of one of these match the quality out of a Tyuphoon III or especially out of a Spectrapure. The components just are not good enough to do it.
