Aquabus connecting to USB wall plate?

Enjoy

That's what she said....
I have my canopy suspended from the ceiling and inside the canopy there is an EB8, and lunar sim that have cords that need to connect to the controller (inside the stand).

So basically I want to add two wallplates. One at the height of the canopy, and one ground level. Both with a 3-prong power outlet, a USB port (for aquabus), and a phone jack for dimming the lunar sim module.

Will the aquabus work with USB ports like these? If not, how else can I accomplish this?

Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks for the reply. Can you explain what repeaters are?

Is there a USB cord w/ repeaters, and a USB cord w/o repeaters?

Thanks again.

Best bet would be to order a custom long USB cable. I am not a fan of having a multiple plug connections inline on the aquabus cable. I just ran a 60' custom USB cable to the garage for an EB4 I have in there running my chiller. The custom cable cost $50. I also got an off the shelf 25' cable for around $35 which is for an EB4 in the light soffit above my tank.

Slief,
That is what I was originally going to do using a 15ft Aquabus cord that I ordered and still have. I was going to go through the wall and just exit low behind the stand a waalaah.... but no.
The EB8 power cord would have to go through the same wall, and it will not reach. If I splice it or add an extension it will not be to "code".

Also, having this connection terminal will allow me to easily remove the canopy completely if needed.

Unless im missing something. :D
Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

It should work fine as long as the intermediate run is USB without any repeaters.

Repeater Extension Cable is not the same as a passive extension cable. It's an active device allowing you to extend other USB cables. The USB signals going in and out of the extension cable are buffered to assure signal quality and the meeting of the USB2.0 Electrical and Timing Specifications. Repeater Extension Cable allows a USB device to have its cable length extended by up to an additional 40 to 80 ft. By connecting 8 and 16ft. cables in a serial fashion, The USB2.0 extension cable acts as a transparent USB hub and buffers both downstream and upstream data traffic. Both Low and High speed devices will function as well as if they were directly connected to a USB Port with the USB2.0 extension cable.

These Active types of cables will damage the APEX as they only share the same plug design but are not a true USB type connection.

An example of a Repeater Cable is here

A good rule of thumb is if it's got a LED on one of the ends of it (or a larger boxy end or somewhere in the middle of the cable is a box), it's not a passive cable.... Don't use it on the APEX!

I assume that your canopy sits on top of your tank. Judging from your photos, it looks like you can raise and lower it or is it going to hang there above the tank like in your photos?

If it sits on top of the tank, why not run the cable behind the tank and leave some slack so you can raise or lower your canopy. If there is slack, you could easily remove the canopy and have enough slack to set the canopy on the floor behind the tank. Worst case, you could easily disconect the USB plug from the EB8 just like you could from your wall socket.

As for the power cord, you could open the EB8 up and replace the existing power cord with a longer one. While I have never seen the inside of an EB8, I would guess it would be very simple. If its done with a cable suitable for 15amps, you wouldnt be violating any codes. Heck, you might even be able to get Curt to put a longer power cable in one for you. You never what you might get unless you ask.

I just like keeping the wires and cables clean and simple. The less connections in line, the less room for problems.
