My level is lower with no restriction or tee? The 1262's about 3-4 years old and is a 240v 50/Hz version. Perhaps it's a little slower?

yep, 50hz to 60 hz is a bit diff, most i've seen give about a 5' head advantage for 60 hz.

can you do me a favor and snap a pic, with the air all the way closed off?

Hello All,

I just won an auction for an EV240 and I'll be picking it up, locally, this week. This leads me to you...

First, thanks to Capt, Leopard Shark, Rob, and everyone else that posted your info and results. It helped me to decide on this 240 over an ASM (and I have to admit, I do like the smaller footprint as it leaves more room for the rest of the 30 gallon sump / refugium I'm building under a 5' 156 Gallon Oceanic RR - oh yeah, and the water depth you can run the skimmer in is better as well).

Anyway, the questions...

In reading this and other strings, it seems that if someone puts on a solid pump, the AquaC's kick some tail. If they don't, they wonder why the world is falling...

I currently own an Iwaki WMD30 and I don't think I could handle any more noise that thay sucker produces out of my living room... Then again, it doesn't seem like that's enough power for the 240. Is a Pan 150 allot less noise then a WMD40? (I had a WMD40 once and had to take it back because of noise)

Also, is an in-sump (quieter, I think) like the Mag18 enough for an EV 240? Do they kick out allot more heat than external pumps?

Lastly, I was considering a Sequence Barracuda to run both my tank return and skimmer (with the head at 4/5' without the skimmer)... But that's kind of a shot in the dark. I'm leaning towards in-sump but I am a little concerned about heat.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks again for all your input on these skimmers!

Charlie

barracuda head pressure is 18', probably would kick it, but
you also have to think where its getting its water input.. the best is right at the top of tank, next is right by the overflow. Anything you put between the tank water and the skimmer, gets into the way of production.
I've seen others run it off of their return and do well though.

And thanks blootang, its amazing the difference between 50 and 60 hz.. my water level when closed off is a LOT higher.
Also interesting to notice that my injectors are on opposite as yours. thinking someone sold me an older 150 instead of the 180...

Blootang,

did you raised your skimmer ?? how many inches ???

I was wondering if it could be the difference ....

Mazurque

nah, my difference is the location of the bulkhead/water injector and the air injector are located different.
i had to let my ballvalve i have tee'd off the pump output before skimmer halfway to get the water level down to there.
and low and behold when i came back a few hours later... BUNCHES of foam.

creektree.... I would suggest a look at this link, and check out the customer reviews.

Panworld 100

I would think that the panworld 150 would need some serious gating on the ev240, resulting in electricity loss. Here is another link showing Marine depots top shelf choice pump for the ev240. This happens to be a model up from Premium Aquatics top choice. (which is the Iwaki 30 you already have)

Here is another link to a customer review claiming the panworlds are more quiet than their Iwaki counterparts. I'm just going to throw in here that I don't personally have the experience with these pumps, I just wanted to help dig up some info. :)

Hey folks, I tested out the new panworld 40 I recieved in the mail yesterday in a fresh water leak test of the new ev180/sump set up, and it's my new favorite pump. Only 45 watts and there is no fan, so it's super silent.

Awesome, Captain. (Also, thanks for the feedback Robsmith32)

You know it's kind of funny, I spent countless hours trying to brainstorm the best way to run this skimmer over the past few days (I did pick it up tonight - I like the quality) and Premium Aquatics recommends the pump I already own. By the way, Capt, thanks for figuring out that I do own the MD30RLT and not the WMD30WHATEVER I Said before I rushed to work this morning.. :D

I might start with the MD30RLT (being it's free) and if that doesn't work, I'll give the Pan 100PX a shot... Being they're saying it's a little quieter than the MD40RLT, maybe it will work for me if the MD30RLT falls short.

I actually pick up my new 156 gallon tank on May 6th... so I'm just in construction mode at this point (sump, skimmer, lights, etc)... But I'll post some picks of what the MD30RLT does once I have her up and going, so future AquaC EV240 purchasers can compare.

Thanks again!!

I have to give some props here to AquaC for outstanding customer service. I bought the large waste container for use with my EV-240, and I just could not get the top off. Kind of embarrassing to email their tech support with a stupid problem like that, but it seemed to be frozen solid (Note: The collection cup on the skimmer is no problem, so its not like I don't know how to do it!). To make a long story short, a new one is on the way along with a return label for the box to send back the old one. Email turn-around for this transaction was on the order of minutes, as well. Nice job guys!

since I am having issues with my 120, nothing foaming to cup. Been 1 week.

I am running a Mag 5, as they wanted but would this be a good replacment pump and why since they are close in gph.

I love my remora too

I love my remora too

Running a remora pro here and haven't had a problem. had used venturi types for many years and I had to adjust them all the time, not with the remora
