I have alot of crud building at the neck of my ev, does that mean I need more pressure?
I'm guessing so.

I get that too...lots of crud coating the neck and the cup itself, but the actual liquid I get is lemonade colored. I'm not exactly sure what to adjust at this point (EV-240 w/ Mag 18).

Hi,
After the overflow I lowered the air a little bit to bring the foam up to about 2 inches from the top of the riser. So far so good. This did also produce a darker skimmate. More of a deep brown but not black as some of the photo's posted. All in all it does pull way more gunk out than my old skimmer by far.It used to take 2-3 weeks to pull out what the EV 120 has done in days.
Just a constant war with the settings.
Time will tell .......

I have kind of a hunch as to why the performance on the smaller ev models is hit or miss with some folks. It occurred to me that the same size injector is being used in the small models as in the large ones. I know that I get way more tiny bubbles using my mak4 pump on my ev400 than I get with my 1260 on my ev180. I'm currently doing some experiments with my ev180. (I'm intentionally adding strombus snail shells into the injector to attempt to get a stronger spray, smaller bubbles, and darker skimmate) I'm going to try different amounts of constriction to the injector and give each a weeks test run. I'll let you guys know the results when I'm finished. I should be able to get some pics of the results as well. :)

Hey guys,

I just installed an AquaC Remora today on my 18g nano and am getting a lot of microbubbles. I know they make a prefilter box, but its simply too big for my tank. I was excited about my Remora, but now I'm not too happy . Will these bubbles ever go away?

I´ll be looking forward for your results!

I'm not even going to bother waiting 3 weeks for test results! For the last 3 or 4 days I've had one snail shell in the injector and noticed little difference. Today I added another (I placed them in the clover ends, so that there is still the middle section and one end left open) and the bubble size shrank by more than half. I now have the smallest bubbles I've seen in an AquaC skimmer.

I'll keep you folks updated and add some pics in the near future. BTW, the snail shell size is about 1/4".

I've heard lots of people that have had ill skimmer performance on ev120 and then works like a champ again by finding and removing snail from injector..Be interesting to see them cause to work better..

If I understood captain, he placed the snails on the tubing just before the injector.
If you clog the injector itself, the skimmer won´t work.
If my skimmer is producing less foam, I know that something is clogging the injector,
Marco

Sorry folks for the confusion. Let me clarify some.

I did indeed clog the injector itself. I placed the shells into the tubing end and shook them into rest at the crimped clover end. This was done to try out different variances in injector constriction without manufacturing different sizes of injectors. (although the finished result will probably be a custom smaller injector)

Now, I don't have a remora or an Urchin model, but I suspect that the injector is smaller than the "ev" models. That would allow the spray to have the needed effect with the smaller pumps.

It makes no sense to me to have the same size injector on the larger models as in the smaller ones (I'm referring to the size of the crimped end). I believe that uping the pump size for performance increase just forces a stronger spray through the injector. (in fact, in order to get a good spray through it on models with a 1" exit, folks have been using a pump so powerful, they have to take off the skimmers gate) That's why it makes sense to me to have a more pinched injector with weaker pumps....all of that water is forced through a smaller opening creating a stronger more forceful spray and greater speed of air injection which creates smaller bubbles. (same principal as using a stronger pump, only this method works for smaller skimmer models with smaller pumps)

I just cleaned out the skimmer tonight, and will snap some photos over the next few days. I'm also going to clean the skimmer again and remove the snails in three days and shoot some more pics for bubble size comparisons in order to prove the results. (and now that I'm a premium member, I can get some better shots)

Cap,
Have you spoken to Aqua C about this theory?
I think your on the money with the larger pump thought.

Frank

No, I havn't spoken to them about it. I wonder about this methods effectiveness with some pumps anyway. I know it works with the eheim 1260 because the pressure it provides is excellent.

I'm just trying to find a way to help the users of the ev120 and ev180 maintain more consistant results. (myself included)

:)

Capitain, so you´re suggesting that my ev400 with the panworld would perform better (smaller bubbles) with a 3/4" injector than with the 1"?

I just orderd an Eheim 1262 for my EV150. I'll update everyone on the difference, or performance, once I get it hooked up and running for a few weeks. I currently run a Mag 7, and get watery skimmate, about a half 1.75 L of Jack Daniels, (big bottle) a week. I "wet" skim, fully open valve.

Stay tuned.

Naw, You're hooked up well already Marco. This is for folks using the 3/4 injector with small pumps.

I may have gotten carried away when I said they were the smallest bubbles I've seen ;) But the bubbles and concentrations of them is now more similar to the ev400.

All it is really, is scaling down the injector instead of scaling up the pump for ev models that cannot handle all of the flow through the one inch exit.

I have Aqua C Remora w/ MJ 1200 on a 50gal.

It did a AWSOME job for the first 3 months. Pulling the darkest skimmate ever.... then for some reason it stopped. Cleaned everything and still doesnt produce anything.

Also.... 4 months now I've had it... and its still putting bubbles in my tank.

I was going to get a EV series skimmer but after my troubles with the Remora....... I'm going with another company.... sorry Aqua C

i got 3 aqua c skimmers. i have a remora on my 28 bow, one on my 20 high, and a remora pro for a larger tank im setting up. i have nothing but good things to say about them, becuase they have done an amazing job on my tanks. the one thing that bothered me, was on my seahorse tank, the 20, it took almost 2 wweeks before it started pumping out a solid amount of waste
