bureau... Kaine gave some dead on nuts advise. :) Keep that injector clear. I periodically shove a pipe cleaner brush through my feed hose. It also comes in handy when I clean out the elbow in the skimmer cup, which btw can become clogged with dry foam and make the skimmer appear to not get enough air.

chris....It's hard to say how much more it's producing than stock. It spent very little time running stock on this tank. (ev400 replaced it on my 180tank). I'd guess that if tweeked to potential, could produce better than 1/3 more skimmate. The biggest benefit I feel, is that now I can choke the air back to almost cut off driving smallest possable bubbles into the skimmer with a larger volume of air than a smaller pump would produce. (enough to climb a 9 1/4" riser).

Here is another pic I shot when I came back from brush cleaning the cup, with a wet towel to clean the riser. Got back just in time.

The small (hehe) green algae bottle with airline attachment is housed over the air intake valve because I smoke in the house, and I have a airpump by a cracked window providing freash air to the skimmer and tank. It also helps to correct Co2 levels in the tank. Excess air blows out the bottom of the housing.

Yea... I plumbed a 1" pipe through the ceiling out to the eve to draw in outside air. It does make an difference... I'd say on average my ph is +.15 because of it.
I smoke as well... didn't take long to notice the column crash from just a whiff of smoke...lol.

Here is an older pic -

Hehe kaine.... Yup smokers take note. :D

Here's the one on my ev400 plumbed out the window in my office.

That icemaker hose was connected from the window to the skimmer and helped lower Co2, but didn't help with the cig smoke. I guess I should pull that out of there now that I remember it's still there. :)

from the looks of those air systems i think it would be better for your reef tanks if you quit smoking LOL it might help YOUR air intake too!

I have the Remora on my 24g AquaPod (soon to be my 26g bowfront) and I also have the Remora Pro for my 105g, but thats not up & running yet. I love the Remora's, and wont ever have a tank without one!

Ever since I upgraded my EV180 pump from a Mag7 to Eheim 1262, I can't stop staring at it.

The auto-waste container is finally being put to use. I've had the waste container for over a year, and all it did was collect condensation. It used to take me over two weeks minimum to fill the collection cup, before it overflow into the waste-container. I usually clean it after a week, so nothing flow into it. Now it only takes a day to fill up and overflow into the waste-container.

I'm going to try cleaning out the injector and hose like a lot of you suggested. Hopefully it'll boost the skimmer's performance even more. I haven't touch it for over a year. =(

Do you guys know if there is a difference in the injector for the EV180 and the EV120? I would love to try putting the injector for the EV120 into my EV180, if the injector is smaller (more restricted). Any suggestions on this guys?

The injector is the same size on the ev models up through the ev1000 I think, although I havn't a clue what the ev2000 uses. I personally feel that's the biggest problem with the ev120 and 180. They should use slightly smaller injectors, in fact if you go back some pages, you can find where I was running an ev180 with a small snail in the injector on purpose using an eheim 1260. My theory was that that should help to widen the "window" between skimming well and overflowing. (which is small on the ev120 and 180 because the 3/4 injector needs a lot of pressure to function at peek performance). Actually, I think I still had it in there when I tried out the eheim 1262 which caused me to think it wasn't powerful enough for my enlarged ev180. So yesterday, I gave it another go and I'm happy with it. It only needs a small amount of gate on the exit. That puts me on an even keel with the other unmodded ev180's performance, it will just be a little easier for me to get the dry foam I was looking for. :)

I want to clarify that just a little.

My smaller injector theory is for smaller pumps and smaller ev models. For example--ev120 with a Mag5 or a ev180 with a Mag7 or Eheim1260. I can't experiment anymore, since I no longer have a stock ev180. If I remember right, mine was working great. It would be cheaper to have AquaC custom make a slightly smaller injector, than to upgrade the pump.

I have a smoker in the house too. I put something together to solve the smoke issue as well as muffle the air intake noise. I use a 1" PVC cap drilled with holes, a piece of 1" PVC pipe, and a 1" to 3/4" PVC elbow. I just shove some cotton at the bottom, fill the 1" PVC pipe with carbon, and cap it. I use a piece of vinyl tube to connect the thing to the skimmer. It works like a charm! I can actually hear the foaming sound.

I cleaned out my injector and replaced the vinyl tube. I cannot believe how clogged up they were. I thought I was going to overflow the skimmer when I plug in the pump, because the water level rose almost to the collection cup.

I installed an elbow to the end of the gate valve to channel the water into my refugium. I made a mistake of drilling a vent hole in the elbow. I think the manual recommend it, so the water would not drain out too fast, but it was introducing too much air into the skimmer (almost like an unplugged JG fitting). It was also making alots of gurgling noises too. Once I plugged it up, the water level in my skimmer dropped and the gurgling noises went away without having to restrict the water back with the ball valve. I was able to get really fine bubbles that you guys were talking about. Wooohoooo!!

Thanks for all the great ideas!! Keep them comming.

Hi All,
I have an AquaC 180 and want to see how others have theirs set up. I don't think mine is skimming enough :(. I can not seem to get the right amount of skimate or it dialed in just right. I have seen pics of peoples collection cup but want to see how far in the tower is the water level. So a full picture of the skimmer would be good. I have a 90 gal tank with a 20 gal sump. I am running the skimmer with a Mag 9.5 so I was expecting to see it produce lots of bubbles and more skim. I have the pump on a ball valve by the way. After skimming this post I know my skimmer is not living up to its full potential. I changed a few things around so now the gate valve is out of the water, is not close to the sump wall and that has introduced another problem. Now I have a little peeing fountain :(. The water is rushing out and splashing everywhere. I saw a few pictures in this post with a moded gate valve but thought it was not supposed to have anything added to it. For those that have an AquaC 180 I would like to see pics or some details of the following:

1. How submerged the gate valve if any?
2. Which direction is the gate value pointed? IE close to a sump wall or pointed in the direction of the return pump?
3. How fine are the bubbles produced in the foam tower by your pump?
4. How far up in the foam tower/collection tower is the average water level?

Any tips on getting it to skim better would be greatly appreciated. I can post pics of what my fountain looks like later tonight if that would help. I want to be one of those with lots of stinky skimate too...lol.

Thanks in advance,

Henry

Your water level might be too high. Don't submerge the output gate valve or point it to a wall. If your skimmer is new, give it a few days. Then start adjusting the air valve so the water level us just at the top of the black box (below the tower). Also, make sure you have something going to the JG valve, or that it is closed; having this open will allow too much air into the skimmer.

finally got around to ordering my 1" injector for my EV240. I can't wait to get it, I'll let you guys know how it goes when I hook it up. I never did try the beckett mod although I still may.

Should I add a ball valve on my mag 18 again? I want thinking no.

Cheers,
Waxx
