AquaC EV Series Protein Skimmers

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about these skimmers? I was thinking of buying one for a 500 gallon tank.

Thanks

They're pretty decent, but I dunno if I would consider it for a tank that big. The spray injection design is nice, but I don't know what it would cost you, but I'm almost willing to bet that for what you're going to pay, you could get a pretty awesome multiple needlewheel skimmer for that price, and I trust a good needlewheel more than any other type of skimmer as far as consistency and efficiency. I know that you can get more skimmate out of a beckett, but they're also less efficient and less consistent. To each their own though.

I was thinking of buying that skimmer because I can get it wholesale at a fraction of the cost.

My actual tank is 250 gallons, plus between additional frag tanks and sump I am looking to have a total of about 500 gallons.

Are there any needle wheel skimmers out there the size I need for about $500?

get a needlewheel those EV Series Protein Skimmers sucks they work but never like needlewheel ones u can buy a use g6 for less than $500 :) or u can use 2 skimmers like i will do......

hey brother, i just got an EV-180 a week ago. i installed externally, even though it works better internally. man this skimmer works great. it pulls gunk you would not believe. it stops working for maybe 30 min when you put your arm in the water. make sure you inspect the skimmer. i bought mine at marinedepot and it came damaged. no worries, they shipped me new one overnight. i highly recommend this skimmer!!!

also, i payed $400 with the pump and JG fitting and overnight shipping included. i love it was sceptic at first. go for it

The only thing I don't like about these is cleaning. The foam tower gets coated with skimmate and cleaning it out is tricky. I've tried using a plastic spatula, but a paper towel seems to work best. It's nasty and smelly and sometimes a big blob of skimmate will fall off and down into the body (back into the system).

Oh man, 12" x 32" tube? That thing would ROCK THE SOCKS OFF ANY EV, EVER! sorry. That's just a really crankin' skimmer. I wouldn't even compare any of the EV series. You could also do sooo many modifications with a needlewheel 12" body if you were never satisfied, but I think that skimmer would satisfy you immediately.

Thanks for everyone's help. I spoke with manny and he is going to build me a skimmer 12" x 48" with a external needle wheel.

sounds like a nice and big skimmer, and with skimmers(any filtration equipment for that matter) bigger is definitely better, imho. I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing pics of your whole setup, because I plan on doing, almost exactly, the same thing(250-350g tank, w/ about 250-350gallons worth of sump/fuge and frag tank) in a year or 2. Good luck with everything.
