AquaController Not Responding

I know this issue is probably asked here constantly. I apologize for doing it again.

I just don't understand why I usually, but not always, get this message when trying to connect to my AC III Pro through AquaNotes. I do have the AC connected to my wireless router through a Linksys WGA600N gaming adapter. I'm afraid this is probably the problem.

What am I supposed to do or look for that would be causing this problem?

If it is easier just to link me to another page that is fine.

Could someone at least explain to me the basics (In layman's terms) of what I'm trying to do? I REALLY don't "understand" IP addresses, ports, etc, etc. All these terms are like Japanese to me and it makes even reading the AC manual a task for me.

Can someone PLEASE help me or is there somewhere else I should go to get some help on this?

If you see this randomly the issue is more likley the wireless connection dropping and re-establishing. It is possible that the wireless connection is on the edge of acceptable and it drops out on occasion but then later it is able to reconnect. I have the same issue with the WGA600N (I am NOT impressed with this GA; the older LinkSys GA was much more reliable).

Think of the IP address as a phone number; everything on the network has one and none can be the same. Ports are like extensions; 1 phone number but you can connect to many extensions. If you want a specific person you need to call the correct (phone) number and ask (or connect) to the correct extension. Wireless is like cell phones and sometimes the connection drops (but wireless is much shorter range).

Does this make sense?

That makes a little sense. I am getting a better understanding of it. I definatly think it is with the GA and not the ACIII. It connected for about 3 minutes last night but that was it. And I had made no changes to any settings.

So how well does your WGA600N work for you? Doesnt sound like it is great? How often does it "drop the signal" for you? Have you thought of doing anything differently?

I switch all my LinkSys stuff to the 'n' router and at the same time the 'n' GA. Ever since changing I have not been happy with LinkSys; even on the forums there is suggestions that the equipment wasn't ready to be released. My last LinkSys setup ran perfect and never had connection issues.

From reading around it seams the central issue is the (main) router.

Hmmm.... interesting. I recently had to buy a new router and went with the new style Linksys which has the flat design. I believe it is only G though, and not N. I will check when I get home. When I connect an Ethernet line directly from the controller to the router, I have no problems though.

So Ken, do you think we waisted $100 on these GA's?

I am also recieving the not repsonding issue when i try to connect my aquanotes lite to my AC3 via ethernet. I went into my virtual port and set the port forwarding to prt 80 like it says in teh instructions, set the netmask, dns server and gateway to what my computer was and then changed the IP address slightly from mine. It still will not respond and keeps saying login failed. The login and password are default and are correct. I can access teh controller through a web browser just by typing in the ip. This works but i cannot access the controller through aquanotes lite.. '

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

AquaNotes uses different communications than the web (browser) connection. Are you trying to use Aquanotes via the internet of your internal home network? Aquanotes uses Telnet; different port all together.

The Virtual Port and Port Forwarding is used to enable access to the controller from outside the home network.

I loved the LinkSys WRT54G; it was a wonderful router but ever since upgrading to the WRT600N I've had nothing but trouble! I disconnected the 600N and purchased a D-Link Extreme and am back to being a happy person (selling the 600N). It seams that the D-Link has better connections when devices are further away. I kept the LinkSys GAs; they work very well with the D-Link. So no, I don't think you wasted money on the GAs; I think they are fine. I really like the LinkSys GAs because they have 2 connections, 1 for the device (AC3) and one for configuration/status.

So do you think it could be my router? I have an old Linksys router at my office that looks like the WRT54G that I could switch out with the one Im using at home. Id have to check the model number tomorrow to be sure which one it is. That will be a bit of a PITA because I will have to call Comcast and have them switch my IP's. But it would be worth it if it will work.

If you have the 600N; it could be the router.

Why would you need to call Comcast; aren't they using DHCP? When I changed a friend's router (Comcast) I just went into the old router and released the IP, then it will re-establish when the new router is connected; same with Verison. If you forget to do that then you would need to wait like 12 hours or re-connect the old router and release the IP.

You might want to try this before you call Comcast and go through that hassle.

Releasing the IP would probably work. I didn't know I could do that. I just remember switching my routers between my office and home and having some kind of problem. It took calling them to get them to work in their new locations. Comcast probably did exactly what you are saying I can do myself.

How do you "go into the router and release the IP?" I'm am really stupid when it comes to this stuff.

My router is a WRT54G2 V1. It is the new flat, black, body style but I believe it is G and not N.

By the way, I unplugged the GA and connected the ACIII directly to the router and AquaNotes connected to the ACIII immediately upon updating.

Looking at my "AquaNotes Site Database," should I have it on "Direct Connection" or "TCP/IP" when using the GA?
