Hey everybody whats been the experience of aquacultured vs maricultured colonies? Ive been sticking to aquacultured but there sure are some nice maricultured colonies for sale here and there.
Maricultured are the same as wild the only difference is they theoretically have been harvest in a sustainable manner. The biggest perk is you know they don't bother to Mariculture brown corals so they "should" colour up at some point and the cost. Pests and colour shifts are always a possibility.
Aquaculture in most cases are much more costly for the size of the coral you will receive you still may get pests but you know what they "should" look like.
Only maricultured here in Indonesia, and it's like a gamble everytime we introduce one into our tank
Maricultured ones need to adapt a lot into our tank environment, while aquacultured or tankcultured don't need to adapt that much. Imagine the vast differrence between the ocean and an aquarium...
I have lost half of the maricultured corals I have purchased. Only 2.5% of the aquacultured corals didn't make it in my tank. It has taken a long time to get the colors back on the aquacultured ones.
