aquamaxx replacement pump options

I have an aquamaxx hob-1 and I believe that in 10 months the pump has decided to basically die on me. I need to disassemble it tonight to check but it just had a vinegar bath a couple weeks ago so it should be clean and free.

That said it is pulling just enough water to hold a siphon and trickle water but it is not pulling enough to produce any more then a slight film of bubbles. I am planning for the worst and that I will need a new pump. I looked on the site and the replacement pump for it is around 130. For that cost I could simply buy a new skimmer for a few extra bucks...

So I was curious if there are other pumps your would recommend to use with this skimmer that are a more reasonable price.

After taking the pump apart tonight I will probably try to go through the warranty process with aquamaxx as well but not knowing how long that will take or if they will honor it I would like to know what my options are.

Hi Soulpatch,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the pump. The Sicce pumps used in AquaMaxx skimmers are usually very reliable. If you have thoroughly cleaned out the pump and impeller, we would recommend checking all the pipes to make sure they are fitted snugly and that the venturi is clean. Often, calcium builds up on the venturi (where the yellow airline is attached to before teh pump) and restricts air from being drawn in to the pump.

Lots of our customers get 3-4 years or more out of the pump, so if your skimmer is less than a year old it is unlikely that you need a new pump.

If anything, you can send the pump and venturi back to us and we will be happy to check and test it for you :)

There was a small clog in the plastic for the venturi which also limited the pump input. Cleaned out and working better then I remember it doing for a while.

Thanks
