Aquanote lite not pickup up AC jr.

Downloaded Aqunote lite and its not pickup up my AC jr. When I plug the AC jr to my lop top via seiral to USB adapter the computer is picking up the AC jr as a new device. Do I need some type of update on the AC jr or Aquanote?

No update is required, but you do need to install the device driver for your USB to serial adapter. Once you do that you should have a new serial port on your PC. In AquaNotes the serial port is select on the config tab of the database->tank database window.

will window xp be able to install the driver with out a disk? The USB to serial adapter did not come with any software.

It depends on the particular chip that is used in the adapter. Some are recognized by windows, and others require a driver. Look in the device manager found in the system control panel to make sure that the new com port is there.

OK, there was a driver disk for the adapter. After installing I still got the same message "AquaController Not Responding". Any other ideas? Should I try a different adapter?

You should see the com port in the device manager in the 'ports com & lpt' heading. If not it has not been properly installed.
In AquaNotes select this newly added serial port on the config tab of the database->tank database window.
Use our serial cable to connect the AquaController to the USB adapter. Other cables may have the correct connectors, but they don't have the right internal connections. The required connections to make a serial cable can be found here: http://www.neptunesys.com/hardwareFAQ.htm#CABLE
