Everything is looking great. Glad to see the Earl's and Rhomboid made thier way into the display. Sorry to hear about the labouti, I have been lucky with mine so far, and hope it stays that way.

How are the new wrasses settling into the big tank?

Thanks, the new guys are doing great, the rhomboid is even doing a little chasing of his own. I may try another small Labouti but I don't think I'll reintroduce this guy.

Brett, so sorry to hear about your Borb...

I've gotta say your camera skills are getting better all the time! The tank is looking fantastic - corals growing in nicely and your fish all look nice and healthy. It's good to see the Earl's has settled into your DT and your PQ is awesome! We tried a couple of them many years ago without doing any research and failed miserably. It is great to see that yours is doing well.

Ive been having having issues with my QT lately, I do 100% water change get it back to normal and within 3 days I have pea soup. Its driving me nuts cause its worthless to QT fish that you can't see to observe. Ive torn the whole tank down, cleaned everything, changed all media and 3 days later pea soup. I thought it was the window behind the tank causing this, so I blacked out the back and try and keep the blinds shut but no help at all. Thoughts, help anyone?

That is really weird. Are you using new saltwater to do your 100% change? Do you run any lights on the tank?

Have you tested the water when you have your "bloom"?

I am not sure what is going on, but if it were me, I would probably consider tearing it down and bleaching everything and starting over since the QT is empty right now.

Ive tried new saltwater and water from the DT

I have a small two bulb current T5 fixture on the tank

No I haven't tested it.

The QT isn't empty but I may try this anyways.

What kind of filter are you running on it. Any chance your filter could be holding heavy bacteria causing the bloom or dead bacteria causing the pea soup ? I have a 25 gallon qt I have hooked up to a cpr backfuge skimmer an filter and a marineland canister. I change ten gallons every 3 days on it when there is a heavy fish load in it (3 or more fish at one time)

Are you running a skimmer in the QT?
What's the temperature at?
Just a suggestion.... add some carbon and if still no change...bio pellets on a hang on reactor.
Lack of anaerobic denitrifying bacteria could be the issue?
Just putting out some ideas that cropped into my mind.

I was thinking the same thing RN, it ran clear for over a year before I started having this issue, Im really not sure why it started though. Remember I put the 3 PQ anthias through the same QT and fed them a lot and never had this problem back then, why now?

I let a nasty case ich get through and it just went nuts. Copper had zero effect on it and after weeks of battles trying to beat it, it's really took its toll. I think I finally have beat it with quinine sulphate but the damage has been done. I know people have their own opinions of ich but I've seen a couple cases over the years that have been different to say the least. I got lazy on my QT procedures and paid for it. It was like a slap in the face and left me a little uninterested for a while but I'm warming back up to things now and I'm looking really forward to having fish in the tank again.

Brett. Sounds like your "ich" outbreak was infact Amyloodinium ...

Very similar symptoms to Cryptocaryon irritans, but much more severe !

I'm very familiar with marine velvet and I don't think it was otherwise copper would have worked on it. I went through Six weeks of copper with zero results, after a tip from national fish pharmacy I switched to quinine sulphate with great success. I honestly think there are resistant forms of ich that copper and hypo won't touch.

I have heard similar theories Brett. No first hand experience but I have a mate who is a curator of a public aquarium and their vet suggested that "new" strains are resistent to usual treatments.

Not necessarily, often times Amyloo isnt responsive to therapeutic, hobby levels of copper ...

However, Quinine is typically very potent, to both Amyloodinium as well as the fish undergoing treatment, which is one of the characteristics/variables of this specific situation that suggested Amyloo as a strong possibility.

What were all the details/symptoms you experienced, Brett ?

I wouldn't rule it out but the only symptoms I noticed were white spots along with lots of heavy scratching on the rocks. My first attempt was tank transfer which was probably my biggest mistake along the way, it was just too many fish to ever be successful but with all the copper sensitive wrasses I gave it a shot. The spots came and went every few days and by the end of four transfers it seemed that I had it beat (let the observation period begin). During the second week of observation it came back with a vengeance and that's when I switched to copper. After six weeks of copper at full strength still no love and off to quinine sulphate I go. Today is day ten of treatment and the last of the fish seem good to go now, I hope. This has been a rough period on me and is probably the closest I've ever come to wanting to give up, at this point I try not to think of what has been lost and just keep going.

Thank you so much, I have a really great list in my head that I cant wait to stock but I have to make sure the few I have left are first priority. Im still a wrasse nut and that will never change. Stay tuned!!!
