Aquaph8's 225 Build

Gotcha, thanks. I'm really considering switching from IO... Can't really nail down what the issue is with doing water changes but I'm about fed up with it. Tropic Marin and/or Red Sea Pro is looking real good to me right now. :headwally:

Tank is looking amazing Bret..great work.

Red Sea Coral Pro is beginning to fall out of favour over here. I never really understood anyone using it because the levels are so elevated. Their marketing is good but unless you intend to run your tank at 12/13dkh then there is little point using it, why use a salt that mixes up at 12+ dkh if your tank settles out at 9dkh.

A lot of guys who jumped on the RSCP band wagon are slowly going to other salts that have more natural levels

Very interesting d3. I've read it had high Alk as well and was a slight concern of mine. What salts are people in your area switching to instead?

Just read the entire thread. Great tank. I love the way the corals are growing in and the tank is maturing. Sorry about your fish losses, but that new Earlie is spectacular!

Thank you

Tank looks amazing bro!Well done!

Appreciate it

Thank you. That's what my problem with Reef Crystals was too, which is why I started mixing it with TM pro. I try to keep my alk around 7.5. I have some aqua craft coming soon, hopefully I'll like it and I can quit having to buy two brands

Drummer. Yes, it's advisable/favorable to run Alkalinity lower (i.e. 6-8 dKH) in an 'ULNS' ...

Versus, in the range of 9-12dKH

Indeed. I ran mine sub 8dkh for a while when i was running pellets. I just ran into a Dino issue and had to go to plan B. Looks like it's working great for Brett though. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread but why it is " it's advisable/favorable to run Alkalinity lower (i.e. 6-8 dKH) in an 'ULNS' ..."?

I don't know the scientific explanation for this (maybe a good question for the smart people in the chemistry forum) but higher than eight and it burns the tips of your SPS. Please hijack this thread anytime, my thread is your thread :)

Did you personally experience SPS tip burning in your tank Brett? I ran mine ULNS with alk around 9-9.5dkh for a little while and didn't notice anything. But I got worried so I dropped it sub 8dkh after reading about other people having issues. Obviously this has been a while ago in my tank... Maybe SPS react different when running pellets versus liquid carbon dosing?

I've only noticed burnt tips on two colonies, both of which have tips pretty close to the top of the water.

Here's a little sneak peek of what's in the QT.

Thank you, the wrasses for a week and the butterfly for just a couple days. The Mitratus was supposed to be here last week but the original package got lost due to weather.
