Aquaph8's 225 Build

hi Brett,

hmmm purple queen anthias...a very very beautiful fish indeed....
Its great ur getting them to accept frozen food...yes they are not an easy species among the anthias to keep.
The drip system as you had said is a good idea....maybe if u are into anthias husbandry best would be to get a plankton/zooplankton reactor and with a continous drip into the tank..this would be the best setup.
They are quite shy when introduced in a new tank with other estabilished fishes around and might just stay together in one corner and slowly waste away....its heartbreaking to see that.
Some anthias species are not at all like the purple queen...they are very bold, fast and accept every food offered to them...
Purple queen would do best in a tank dedicated to them and a big harem of them in it. They are one of the most beautiful species to behold, but need specific attention.
No pain no gain, right :lol2:

Keep them in quarantine till they are feeding well and get plump..then add them into the main tank once its perfectly cycled, and make sure you wont be adding much competition into the main tank before these beautiful anthias get settled in and feel at home.

Its these challenges that make our hobby so fresh, right?

Good luck with them bro and do keep us posted on the developments, so we also can follow ya and keep some purple anthias in our systems :)

Welcome aboard Dan and HAPPY FRIDAY. Its really great to have you along, your tank has always been a real inspiration to me. I've been missing the weekly happy Friday pics and updates on your thread. Looking forward to seeing your tank up and running again. Thanks for all the nice comments.

Thanks for that Brett just happy that my screw ups can help someone :o. I miss the Happy Friday pictures too hopefully I can get her up and running soon. When I do I'll post a recap. I'll be interested in how your fish selection goes, good luck with the anthias.

Thanks Mike, hows the Tukas doing? Mine are doing fairly well, not really any progress but still eating strong. I always have phyto going but that reactor does look cool. I just ordered a brine hatchery too.

Heres a side shot. I need a good camera.

cool pic....my PQs are still doing well out swimming from morning till dust with all the other fish. They are now accepting baby brine along with all the other small foods.

Thanks Mike, good to hear they are eating brine now. I let them go most of the day without feeding today just to experiment and when I got home all three ate mysis, pretty big pieces too. Everyday they get more and more aggressive tword their food. I started a prazi treatment today, if they keep progressing like this they will go in the diplay sooner than I thought. Who knows maybe they will eat pellets some day.

they ate mysis, nice! ...mine are aggressive eaters also feeding among all the other anthias etc...but only for the small stuff. Hopefully they'll start eating larger foods too so I don't have to fed as often.

Thats great Brett, keep feeding them...minimum 3 times a day....
Now they know mysis is "food" they gonna go after it...
Why not try some slow sinking pellets (finiky eaters formula from New Life Spectrum) along with the mysis?
Glad you are having success with the PQs...makes you wanna get more of them right? :D

Why Prazi do they show any sign of illness or just a precuation?

IME, prazi is so easy and stress free why not.

The tukas are about the same, staying nice and fat. Corals are showing a little new growth and a little more color. The diatom bloom was the shortest I have ever seen. Why? No idea, but they are nearly gone. No complaints here.

:bounce2: woooo hooooo.....so you gonna add more corals now right.....

Cant wait to see those PQ anthias in your tank....and yea pics of new corals :D

Believe it or not there's a bunch of corals in there now. There just so small you can't see them. LOL
There's a frag auction on Sunday though, maybe I'll find some cool stuff.
