AquaPod HQI glass top

Hi RC members. I own a 24g AquaPod HQI which as many of you know comes with the glass top that covers a portion of the aquarium. I recently just purchased an AquaC Remora Nano and was having some issues with fitment on the tank of the tank and the filter reservoir. Thus, I was contemplating moving the unit to the side of the tank and taking off the cgass cover. For those of you that have the HQI, have you removed your cover and if so whats your experience been thus far? Any salt built up on the lighting fixture or accelerated evaporation?

ditch the top. better gas exchange/heat loss at the cost of evap. the 150 puts out some real heat. run a fan across the top of the water surface. monitor water perameters till you know how much you are loosing. top off water for salinity not asthetics. remora not realy nesessary IMO.... cleaning regularly with normal maint. sw is nce but take time and care.
read, read, read, and read...

I ran my pod without the glass top for 4-5 months... 70wHQI

No real problems until my Jawfish went carpet surfing after a water change one night. So I put the glass top back on and have been running for a month now.

I had greater water evaporation with the top off 1 gallon every 3 days (made a DIY topoff with float valve).

With top on 1 gallon every 5-6 days.

No real salt build up without the top, I regularly cleaned from any splashing, as I do with glass top.

BTW: I have a full size remora on the back of my 24pod and it does great....

Thanks for the replies fellas. Mike, which side do you have the remora mounted on? I wasn't sure which side to go with but eventually opted for the back right (if your facing the tank head on) so that way it could draw water in from right off the surface.
