Aquarium decoration question

I have a few stones I want to put in my aquarium for decoration. Not sure if it's safe or not after I boil them to get rid of any bacteria.

Has anyone ever put a petoskey stone in their FOWLR tank?

I picked these up of the shore of Lake Huron.

Thanks for any input.

I put some rocks from the ocean in mine. They were fine, but they grew a lot of algae. I think rocks close to shore pick up more nutrients.
Dumb question: Is Lake Huron fresh water? If so id be even less worried about anything surviving in them in a saltwater tank

I'd be more worried about boiling them and them exploding than anything, lol.

I googled briefly and couldn't find a chemical composition, but it refers to them as similar to limestone.

NEVER BOIL ROCKS.

People have gotten extremly sick from this! Not to mention they could also explode.

Please, they are freshwater rocks so just let them sit in saltwater and the stuff will die off. If you do this in another container than the die off wont effect your tanks parameters.

My wife has polished Petoskey Stones in her FW tank. They look really nice.
They are not really a 'reef decoration' in a purists sense, but its your tank and I think they will look great!
If the rock is clean and has been fully dried for a while I would think it will be fine.

My 6th grade teacher gave me one of those rocks. We had to polish it all up for it to look cool. Very interesting rocks indeed.
