Aquarium Fantasies in Montgomery TDS 60?

Not sure if anyone has brought this up, or even checked but I checked some water I had from them and the TDS meter showed 60. My tap water in my house reads 57. Not good if they are selling tap water. Not sure if this is the first time anyone has said this or mentioned it, but if that is the correct reading, maybe they don't know the filters in the membrane are no longer good, or they know and just don't care. Has anyone else came across this with them?

This doesn't surprise me. I have seen their quality slipping. Jim is in Birmingham and I've heard that Raul is moving. You should Atlantis Aquariums on Wares Ferry Rd. His water is cheaper and is top quality.

Perhaps it would have been in your best interest to speak with them at the store:idea:, reef central cant address this issue for you, I'm just sayin.....

If you have 57 to start with you are lucky and in awesome shape. Watch for your own RO/DI unit and your filters will last for ages with tds #`s that low to start with. Art (knillifer) had a used unit on here for sale recently.

Ok a little background on me. I have broke down my tank and I am moving back to Va Beach. I have a RO/DI unit, so I don't need another 1. I actually grabbed the water for my daughter's betta tank, b/c I had no water made, due to my tank no longer being up. I know dave's place very well at Wares Ferry road. The only reason I posted on here was to get the word out to people. @Rensmif, I'm not trying to solve the issue because I will never be back in Montgomery after I leave in about 40 days but I would like other people to know.

I am sorry you are not happy with your water but I doubt seriously you could have gotten 60 ppt water from either store. We have in-line meters on both store water makers and test them daily. I am in Montgomery weekly to oversee operations and we use all first quality Spectrapure components. I have not checked the in bound tap water (we test the water out of the RO membrane and then out of DI cartridge) but at 60 ppt both the RO membranes (2 of them) and the dual DI's that all water passes through would all have to be dead. We have checked the unit with a second TDS meter with the same result, zero TDS. I have also tested the system with a separate hand meter.

It might also be noted that although we are happy to offer water for sale as a convenience to our customers our water is made primarily for our consumption and I think the tanks speak for themselves. They are far from perfect do to a limited staff and the shear number of tanks but the animals are healthy and algae is minimal. I don't believe this would be the case if we were producing 60 ppt TDS water.

As for Raul and me. Raul has no immediate plans to leave (not within 2011 for sure). I have finally got the staff in place I want for Birmingham/Homewood and should be spending a lot more time in Montgomery shortly.

Montgomery is and will continue to be our main store and I believe is improving. The over crowding in our tanks due to producing corals faster than we could sell them has been eliminated by opening up the Birmingham store. The tanks are cleaner, many of the corals are priced on the tanks (you guys asked we delivered) and we are still the largest saltwater dealer in the state of Alabama and the only full time Saltwater only dealer in Montgomery. Most of the reefs in Montgomery have been started and are being maintained with products, services or information supplied by us and as many of you know Montgomery have some of the nicest tanks anywhere.

If you ever have problems with any product or service we provide ask anyone in either store for my cell phone number and call me directly. I will personally correct any problems or answer any questions you might have.

store quality sucks. lets face it. store looks like a 30 year old dump and you guys don't care about that spot anymore.

I've recently been in both of Jim's stores and they look great. Not sure what your calling a dump. Even the store in Montgomery, although a lot older, still looks great. And you just don't stay in business very long, especially customer service, unless your doing something right.

went there today after not visiting in several months. what wonderful help i had!! I wanted some crabs, and even though hard to find, we were able to find some. if I had one wish it would be that Jim would carry more inverts....cough, cough....!! :) but, nice and clean otherwise

If your speaking specifically about anemone's I think your out of luck.

I got a mini anemone about six months ago and it's beautiful. But, no I was referring more in the reference of snails and crabs

You are either blind or dumb, or maybe both. I have visited all of the saltwater stores in and around central Alabama and Aquarium Fantasies is by far the nicest and most knowledgeable LFS anywhere around. If you are mistaken about the store you are referring to, get your story straight before posting your idiotic commentary for everyone to see.

I have been around here for a long time and debates regarding this or that LFS has always existed. It is a simple solution. Patronize the store or dont . I have always had good luck with livestock from AF so I will continue to shop with them. If they turn you off then there seems to be quite a network of hobbyists who are willing to sell their frags at fair prices. Take your business where you are most comfortable. Above all, money talks.
