Aquarium plan

Hi folks am planning on having a 6 foot aquarium built into my lounge wall [cost permitting] and would appreciate any feed back on its feasability. I am cosidering having the tank [6x2x2] in wall B. Would have to have dividing wall A [line in middle of drawing, 87cm is distance between lounge wall and outer wall] knocked out and the outhouse cleaned. Would have the tank on a fairly high stand with sump underneath. Should have about 40cm of clearance behind the tank hopefully enough to get behind for maintainance and feeding. Also thinking of having some sort of waterproof liner [suggestions appreciated] on the floor with a pipe to the outside drain to avoid any water damage to lounge. Would have to employ builder as im useless.
Thanks Andy

Having a hard time understanding from your drawing and description Andy. Is this on a concrete slab or framing timber floor? Have to consider that amount of weight and if your floor will support it. Water weight alone will be upwards of 1,500lb (680kg). Can you snap some pictures and post them here? Don't know much about building code in England. :D

That's good to know. :) Definitely post some pics. That will really help us to get an idea of what you are wanting to do. ;)

wall B was thinking of moving TV to far right [would sound disturb fish]

this shows wall A directly ahead on the other side of this wall is an outhouse previously used to store coal [full of junk], this would need to be knocked out to make space for the tank,was thinking of some kind of trough or water-proof lining on the floor with drain to outside, to left of where im standing in a small passage a door leads to patio, just behind me opposite open blue door is door to kitchen.Wall B is right hand side wall.

Hope this gives better idea of what I want to do

Nice pics, Andy. :) Wondering if you will have enough room to get around your tank if you put it in-wall judging from the 3rd pic down. How wide is that room where the coat hanger is? What if you put the tank in front of wall "B" and ran you plumbing through the wall, then you could have your sump and equipment behind the wall. Just seems with a large tank it would make for some pretty tight spaces. Have to take into account there will be relatively high humidity levels which will be hard to manage in small areas like that.

Do you know if the dividing wall "A" is load bearing?

I know of at least 2 houses in the street that have these walls removed, and patio doors put in so dont think its load bearing. Could have a smaller tank in front possibly, problem as you can see is big TV, its quite a small room. The small room is 87cm wide, which i think would give about 40cm behind the tank, taking into account wall B is 14cm thick and the tank would be 61cm. Could also have the walls removed completely to lengthen room relocate the bird cage [my mums] and have tank running down right hand side wall not measured how much space that would give but should probably fit 5, maybe 6 foot [just measured it, would give 238cm nearly 8ft of wall space.

Gotcha. I'd check with your builder just to make sure. So, I'm trying to do some of these conversions myself. Bear with me... :)

Tank Room = 34 in
Tank Wall = 5.5 in
Total = 39.5 in

The typical 180g tank that is 72x2x2 is 24 inches from front to back. That would leave, if the tank is built into the wall, approximately 15.5 inches in the back or roughly 39.5 cm. So our figures are about the same. That seems really tight to me, unless you are planning to have access from the front of the tank too. If you could access the sump and top of the tank from the front wall it seems like it would work.

Yes it would be a sqeeze, think i could comfortably walk in and out such a small area, not much room to bend down, maybe there would be some way of having removable panels at the front, this is really complicated. Could just go with plan B and have the walls completely removed and put tank down rhs wall, could do with a lotto win to pay for it :(
