aquarium safe silicone ??

Happy,Happy,Happy!
im in need of some silicone thats safe for aquariums for my project with my solana does anyone have a brand and where i can get it?

I did a diy background for my cichlid tank a couple of years ago I used silicone from home depot. I did my research and found that you can use it for inside tanks but it has to be the one without the mildew preventer in it. Can't remember the exact name of the additive but if you look carefully you can find it. I just looked on their website and I believe the product was GE silicone and Bioseal is what you don't want in it.

My background: Used the silicone to glue to the inside of my 55 gal

Lowes caries a DAP silicone that is aquarium safe (I'm not sure if home do pot carries this brand as I infrequently shop there). It is in the same area as the two part epoxies near the paint section. I've used this on two sumps with no issues other than needing a couple of tubes to get the job done.

I would buy two or three and return what you don't use. Its better than running short!

Home Depot carries aquarium safe silicone. Make sure you go to the isle that has all the specialty glues and stuff. If you go where the regular caulking and sealants are you won't find it. They only sell it in hand size squeeze tubes and they're around $4 each.

home depots clear silicone works fine , the difference is silicone 1 has no mildew preventer in it the newer silicone 2 has addatives in it so just make sure u buy silicone 1 and u r good to go , its says silicone 1 right on the tube , a tube for a caulk gun , not no hand squeezer , I have used it several times and had no ill effects .

See now this is what this forum is about. No arguing about fish cruelty or complaining about RC's servers... just a bunch of guys, sitting around, talking about their caulks. Good Times.

Ha Ha, he said caulks and the dap stuff works good just make sure no matter what you use give it time to cure and nice rockwork tautog

:beer:ya i prep surface with denatured alchohol and when cured wash with vineger and water , it takes a good two to three days for it to cure and stop smelling like a bottle of vineger .:beer:sorry i got beer on my mind , happy friday .

Yeah it def stinks for a while after you use it. I ended up using 3 tubes on that stupid thing. Thanks IDraw

+1 it's made by GE. It's needs to be 1 not 2 and clear. I resealed my tank and made my sump with it.I have seen many tanks done in the diy forum.it's strong stuff. I have see a 300+ gal done with the silucone. Ohh well just my 2 cents.

+2 on the GE silicone. It says on it 100% silicone. White tube with a red label. At the HD in New Milford, it is in the back with the glass and plastic sheets. For some reason they don't always have it with the other silicone. Its also much cheaper than the "aquarium safe" stuff.
