Well gents and ladies. I have purchased the lumber to make my aquarium stand. It is going to have a 2x4 frame with cherry wood facing. I will update this thread as the stand comes along. Hopefully ya'll like it enough you ask me to build you one!

Well I finished the frame for the stand. It's 36.5" W x 36" H x 18.5" D.

I pocket holed the corners of the top and bottom bracing for extra strength since the legs are what will support the majority of the weight.

And so the joints would have the most strength and distribute the weight the best I jointed them thusly. I didn't have a jig saw or anything so I had to free cut the joints which is why they may not look perfectly square :) and the 2x4's were too tall for my miter box.

Next is the fun part. Cutting the cherry plywood to the right dimensions...without a table saw...

I got the Cherry plywood cut today. I found a tip somewhere that was amazing. I bought a 4'x8' sheet of Styrofoam insulation and laid that on the floor. I put the plywood on top of that with the face down and made the cuts on the foam board with a straight edge clamped to the foam board and plywood. Perfect cuts with no chipout. I cut the edges on a 45 degree angle so I won't have any edges showing. Now all that is left to do is mount the plywood which I will try and do sometime next week and then cut and mount the 1" x 2" cherry wood to use as a top lip and cut the baseboard. I'll post pics once I get the plywood mounted.

So, I have been lazy and have not posted pics of my stand build progress and I know the natives got so restless they just left lol.

So, here is an update. I have the entire thing together and am in the process of clear coating the stand. So far I have a cell seal on it as cherry wood is notorious for splotching and absorbing stain differently across the wood. Here are some pics of the stand and front door which I will attach. The stand is even where it will be permanently!!!

Here are some pics of the door. This first one is the inside where I used my awesome new Kregg Jig to do pocket holes :)

This is the outside. I used 2x4 wood stock with three cut sides and one rough cut not finished end. I ripped the wood to 1.5" and as long as I needed. I then cut 45 degree miters and used a simple round over bit on my new router table and did an Ogee cut for a bit of detail on the trim. I am going to mount it into the stand either with a hidden hinge or I will make a faux door with some sort of pressure latch system to keep it in place.

Hope you all like! I will post pics once its all stained and with stuff sitting in/on it!
