I going to pick up an Aquarium I had built for me its about 3 hours away and what I wanted to know is will cold weather affect the silicone sealing the aquarium. I will probably have to leave it in my van over night and its been cold here mid -20%s
Any one know if this will be a problem.

Thanks - Rick

I dont think it would hurt silicone is made to withstand temp. extremes. The kind I use for calking windows anyway. Dont take my word for it though.

I would think you should be alright.

most silicone that I've ever seen is kind of rubbery and shouldn't have any problems with the expanding/contracting that extreme changes in temperature could bring abount. It might become a little more brittle and less plyable in the cold, but thats about it.

Just let the tank sit for a little while to warm up slowly to room temperature before you add water or do anything crazy to it once its inside.

I'd just like to chime in here and mention that I'm in Winnipeg (also Canada) and it's 2:45 in the morning and it's -45 celcius right now.

THATS cold.

:fun5:

Just like Victor said...

It should be ok.. Just be carefull moving it when its that cold, When we moved my 150g, It was cold, (-10?) It kept making them 'tinking' noises, once we got it in the house, we let it sit for a few hours... and of course we let it warm up before moving it downstairs, and adding water...

What size tank? (just curious)

Should be ok...

now what, I wouldn't chance it. that is very cold and the silicone cold pull away just enough to cause a leak later on. I'd make arrangements to not let it sit in that temp.

I wouldn't worry too much. All-glass aquariums are made in Wisconsin,, and Perfecto are made in Indiana... they are shipped all over the country,, including Canada and Alaska,, and they are not shipped in heated trailers....
