Aquascape critisizm please

OK, story goes, had a problem with my tank a few months back...found the issue after I lost half my coral, I moved another 30% to other tanks.

so over the last few months I have been redoing quite a bit on the tank while it settles down. One thing I decided is I didn't like my scape before. This was my first tank I had ever setup as a reef. So I redid it.

1) I had a couple of things i wanted, wanted some open sand.
2) Had a few corals I wanted to leave in this tank, so I needed to accomodate them.
3) The tank is veiwable from all sides, although I really am only concerned about the two long sides.
4) Wanted to make the overlfows not stand out quite as much.
5) changing the tank to primarily sps

This is where I would up, thoughts?

like the islands look, i would go higher with the rock so you dont see through to the other side as much. should look great grown in.

looks good. Do you have them attached to each other in any way? Some of them look like they perched rather precariously. I do like the rather minimal island look for a change from the normal wall of rock.

No they are not secured. I have had a good amount of practice at figuring out what is 'secure' and not secure with my different tanks, especially with my gobies running around this tank. So I am comfy with the 'stability' of the setup.

I will wager the rocks you are looking at as 'precarious' the left 1/3 (pic #2) has been in place since the tank was setup, and I am happy with that side of the tank. I could wack at them with my hand and they would stay in place.

This was the original setup I changed from.

I should add another requirment I had....

6) not get my hand sliced by my sailfin...omg...he was mad as hell that I was changing things..he kept trying to slice me.

I think I'd like a little more rock, but that's my taste. It looks really nice. One comment though. Why is the sofa facing the wrong way? Shouldn't it be a couple of feet out from the tank and facing the other direction?

heh..no it is facing the TV in the room and that is the sitting area where we have guests.

I noticed that your powerhead was directioned towards the surface of your tank... does that create enough circulation? i have mine pointed towards the front center glass pane at a slight downward angle but not enough to blow around my sand?

Is your way more effective or mine? If yours is I think i might try it.

the setup I was using was always effective..but I was using 5 power heads, and with the old rock work setup, it actually produced very nice differing levels of flow in the tank...with the fine particles in the tank from the sand, you could see the flow, and there were usually 4-5 differing alternating directions in a given spot in the tank (top to bottom)

On the flip side, I am replacing those powerheads. I have already removed 3 and put in an mp40. I have a second mp40 on the way and am still hunting for an mp10.
