how am i doing?

i was inspired by Zilla3 to make it more open, more room between the rocks. of course everything i have available is much much smaller... rocks, tank, budget...

anyway!

most of the rocks are from hirocks.com. i got the green ones from darksilent. :)

suggestions?

Yes, it looks rather unstable. You also don't have a lot of room for putting frags on your rocks or for them to grow.

epoxied.... nooo...
that is a good thought...
is it a bad idea to have them securly balanced?

fade32: doh! didn't even think of that!

I think it looks good! Fade32 is right, the sides are hard to clean if the rocks are leaning against the glass. I try to leave at least enough room to squeeze my algae magnet in.

Are you planning on a reef or fish only?

i was going to try and do coral and fish.
hopefully this week i'll get my lights installed in the hood.

i think i'll try and move the rock away from the sides, and more down in front. that'll give me some ledges to place coral.
i wish i had some more larger rocks.

Have you tried/heard about making your own aragocrete rocks? It's an inexpensive way to get some rocks of the shape and size you want. You need crushed oyster shells, which you can get at Charlie's in Wentzville. It's really cheap for a big honkin' bag.

I can't remember the ratio of oyster shell to cement, but if you do some searching on here or a garf.org you'll be able to find a bunch of info.

I know it has to cure for quite a while. It will spike your pH. But, since you're just getting started, this is probably a really good option for you.

If you need some rubble to get your coraline started, drop me a line. I'm in Wentzville and I've got rubble to spare. ;)

I'm not really interested in making my own. I'm content with what I have now.
you're in wentzville?
can i come see your setup? i would definatly definatly like some spare rubble!

If you really wanted a one or two big pieces, you could go to a landscaping place and buy holey limestone at around 12 cents/pound. There are several of us SEASL/SLASH people who have done that. You just wash/soak it really well first. Mine that I placed in the tank in February is already covered in coralline.
