Aquascaping.....

Any tips on how to NOT create a sandstorm when aquascaping?? I really don't recall this issue when I had my 150g up and running. I move one rock and the tank gets a little cloudy.......two and its all over.

I was wanting to plan out my rock tonight, but after taking the rock out, I can no longer see in the tank to figure out placement.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have some very fine sand. If you have all your pumps off I can't imagine what you could do to decrease the sand storm from moving rocks. But, having such fine sand will make your tank look very nice when you are all done:)

I guess I didn't have this fine of sand in my 150g!

Between killing aptasia with kalkwasser and moving rock, it looks like muddy water, HA HA.

I am afraid to put my filter sock back into place....thinking that it will clog with sand over night

The sandstorm effect is really because your system is so new. Once you begin to culture aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in the sandbed, it will act like glue holding the sand granules together, therefore minimizing disturbances.

Cheers~!

Just a small update. Paul (lestat) stopped by today and picked up some of my excess rock, thanks again Paul. He took 27# off my hands and it REALLY free'd up my tank!

I suck at taking pictures and looks a lot better in person.....but what do you think?

BTW, there are open spots all the way behind the rock for water to flow and fish to hide!
