Aquatic Critter Praise

I have to give AC some praise from our visit yesterday. First, a young lady asked if we needed help right off, and checked back with us ever so often (took longer looking since we had our 3 yr old with us)...even though they were very busy...had two other quys inquire if we were doing OK. So once we decided on what we wanted...I was fully prepared to purchase a Lunare Wrasse since they didn't have a Melanurus in stock...we already had two other fish on hold, and one on order...the guy (wish I knew his name) heard me mention the Melanurus to my wife as he was preparing to put it on hold for me (pick up after other errands), he stopped and explaining the fish's personality and said we didn't want this fish if we didn't want this behavior, and that a Melanurus would be more suited to the environment we wanted... He could have easily sold us that fish without any issues (my wife really liked it), but he was honest and informative... Excellent service. We ordered a Melanurus...

I bet you were dealing with Chris (not the owner the other one) He is a very nice guy. So is the store owner but out of his employees Chris is one of the best.

This is just one of the reasons I like getting all my stuff local. AC has always had great service (1 or 2 bumps here and there of course) and even though their stuff usually costs more when you walk in and see their tanks you know why..

You can buy some really cheap fish out of petco from their VERY suspicious looking tanks and take a chance or you can go to AC and know you're getting good stuff but pay a little more.

BTW the advice was correct cause I had a Lunar Wrasse and he was a handful to say the least... Very tempermental.

Most of them in there are very helpful. Only one guy in there I will not deal with again after the incident last time. They always ask me if I needed anything no matter whichever way I turn. It's about the only place I shop for fish products. My friends go there with me to purchase stuff cause they trust my judgment.

I have a smartphone with a data plan, so I've just made it a habit to look google (or bing, if you're partial to Microsoft) stuff before I buy it. That said, stories like this are encouraging - It's good to know that some of the LFS people care enough to sacrifice a sale to prevent an ill-conceived purchase that would interfere with our enjoyment of the hobby.

I don't know most of the AC guys by name, but there are only a acouple I no longer trust for advice. Either they do a great job hiring or a great job training people. They are always my first stop when shopping for anything aquarium-related. Or herp related, for that matter. We're lucky to have a shop like that close to home.

Last time i was there, mentioned that I'm a reef club member, and asked for the discount. The guy who helped me acknowledged it, but didn't apply the discount to the items I purchased.

However, he then made it up to me by giving me deeper discount.. can't complain about that.

There are few people I don't like to deal with, it's like they are always in hurry, busy, or impatient.

One time I told a guy I want to get 3 things, a coral, a piece of equipment, and a fish. He grabbed the net got the piece of coral, and disappeared.. I stood there for like 5 mins... waitting for him to come back.. lol

The owner Chris is always nice, he also told me that as a club member, LR is $6.99/lb no matter how much you buy. It's a nice deal.
