Aqueon Modular ProFlex Sump Filtration

The return pump was turned off but I see the skimmer was still powered. In a power outage, your skimmer will empty out about halfway and most likely cause an overflow. Better do a total power outage test (kill power on everything..except lights of course) and see where you would be at just to be safe. I have the Proflex 3 and I too have a problem with space in the sump. I have 2 small pumps, one for GFO reactor and the other a UV sterilizer, ASM G1 skimmer and one RIO return pump and I can't fit anything else in there if I needed too.

Thanks for that, I actually never thought about that. I think what I am going to do is lower the water level so its sits right underneath where the sponge baffle is. Then I will raise the skimmer about an inch and get a 90 elbow pointing down into that sponge from the skimmer return. This should both ensure that the sump doesnt overflow in an outage, and also solve my bubble problem. When I turn off the skimmer my tank looks so much better :hmm3:

Wall between chamber one and two

Wall between chamber one and two

Ok, I know the wall stays up between chamber one and two when there is water in there. But I shut my sump off when i feed the little guys and restart once the food is gone. That wall in the meantime keeps falling back down when the sump is off. I have to take my light off my refugium, remove the cover and pull it back up once i turn the pump back on. They should of made a latch system for the desired height. Anybody else finding this to be a problem?

I have heard people putting a reef safe putty to hold it in place and that seems to help. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you wanna glue it in case you do have to move it. Someone might have a better idea I'm sure but I'm pretty sure someone told me that is what they did.

I could probably find this reef safe putty in my local fish store?

Thanks.

Does anyone know how many gallons the model 3 holds? i know it used for tanks up to 110g but how many gallons can the sump hold

I have the Model 4 and like it so far. I have a Octopus extreem 200 on the way and the return resivor should accomidate it. It needs to set in 8"-9" inches of water. This is my plan to increase the water depth in the return resivor. Just cut a piece of plex glass as wide as the sump and to the height you want and place it on the wall inside the bubble trap between it and the resivor. your able to make your water level at what ever height you want as long as it's not heigher that the refigum, dont glue it the water pressure will do the job. FYI just do a power outage test to make sure it will not overflow. After I put in the new Skimmer I'll post another video.

very nice alanbates12. Never thought about raising the level in the third chamber that way. I also like how you used egg crate to cover the refugium. A lot of people complain about the algae that it grows into the third chamber. thats a quick fix.

I just got my Reef Octopus XS160 yesterday. I ran it in a bucket of water for about 6 hours last night. I took it to the sump to see how much work I would have to do to get it to fit. It went in and I will not have to re-plumb.

However, there is a slight issue and most likely a newb issue. The water coming out from the valve is loud. What do I do to reduce that noise level?

I am thinking I just add PVC to that output valve and bend it into the sump. Is that possible and is it ok if it goes below the water level? Just trying to keep the noise level to a minimum.

I have the same skimmer in mine and i tried to have the water level in the skimmer right above the min line and then the water coming out isnt as strong and i also tried to position the water to hit the side of the sump above the sponge it seems to be a little better it seems to be just how open the valve is.

BigRedNole here is my new Octopus skimmer maybe my set up will help you. What your wanting is a Protein Skimmer Vent. You can DIY or buy it here http://coralvue.com/protein-skimmer-output-vent The only problem with a DIY is the parts are metric. And Mr. Goodbar I really like this sump. I had lots of room.

any way to DIY the vent? I cant seem to find anything about it just on the website you gave me. I defiantly want to make the skimmer quieter thats all i can here is the splash from it.

I made you a picture, 1st grade level if I do say so, of what the factory vent looks like. I think you can make this for under $10.00. Mine was 50mm. I think you can go to the web site and find out the size for your skimmer. Also I've listed the web site and phone number if you want to buy the kit and mine was $47.00 with shipping, uggggggg.

alanbates12 so does the pvc that takes water below water surface under the water so when water goes down the pvc it is coming out underwater?

Looks perfect! Bet it was a lot less than what I paid. Let me know how it does and yes it comes out under the water so you can't hear it.
