Aqueon Modular ProFlex Sump Filtration

Marlando - is your heater safe sticking that far up above the water? I put mine in diagonally behind the socks in the 1st chamber to ensure it stays fully submerged. Nice setup, btw.

Yes, I have moved the heater into the sock area, Thanks!

Since my office is always on the Hot side, it never goes on, maybe in the winter. LOL

does anyone know if the model 1 sump rated at 550GPH can fit either of these skimmers

Reef Octopus NWB-110
or
SWC 120 cone skimmer

any help is appreciated thank you

I purchased a used model 4. My plans to mod it are to cut out the second wall, glue the wall divider to the third wall to set the middle and 1st section to 8.5inches. Use my ATB skimmer 840 in the center section (test fitted and it JUST fits.) Divide the last section which is huge on the model 4 into a chaeto and return section separated by an eggcrate divider.

This will go under a 72g bowfront with the stand modified so I can get things in and out.

The acrylic on this sump is THIN. And it flexes when the last compartment gets too full. I think it's probably only a matter of time before this thing leaks.

I made my first sump out of acrylic sheet and wanted to try something prebuilt this time.

I think the older models must have been made with really thin acrylic. Cus mine is really thick acrylic. I would maybe add some sheets of acrylic on the frame of it to help hold together. Like on the inside walls and maybe something over the top to help bowing. Especially since it's made for certain volumes in the chambers might not be sturdy enough changing volumes.

FWIW here are some pics of my model 2 in my stock 46 bowfront with slight modifications stand. I don't have it up and running yet but after the mods it fits perfectly although no room to spare. I have a swc120 cone skimmer thats also fits perfectly in the 3rd chamber with room for a return pump too. This is my first go at saltwater(reef). I don't have any pics of the equipment inside but can take some if anyone wants to see. All I did was rip 1" off of each of the end boards and install the rear center brace on the outside of the frame instead of the inside. It would probably be fine like that but I added two 2x2's on either side of the center support just for insurance. The swc 120 fits great with plenty of room for a return pump too

way to go with your first post!

why has everyone paid upwards of 300$ for these models and had to modify them just to fit a decent sized skimmer/? guess it makes you feel good paying out the butt for these over priced sub-par sumps; boy are they pwetty though. There isn't even any room for excess water during a poweroutage. If someone can enlighten me , what makes it better than my custom 40 gallon breeder that can do everything i wanted and then some for about a 1/5 of the price. just another example of something overpriced in this hobby that tricks noobs by flashy looks and no performance.

Not all of us paid 300 for it. I bought it used for 100. And modifying it meant i cut part of the lip off the removable wall and moved it to the third wall. Took 15 minutes. Perfect 8.5 inches in height for the skimmer. And the skimmer sits in center section as well.

Proflex 4 sump holds plenty of water, already tested on my 70g bowfront. Measures nearly the same size as your 40b.

100 bucks, no messy silicon, no glass baffles, no compromise. So, even though you might think you're smarter than the rest of us, you'd be wrong.

well ive been running my model 3 and i would have to say that this sump is legit. runs very very quite, cool design, and build quality is nice as well. the only thing i dont like is the adjustable wall (needs to have some kind of lock to hold it in place when the flow stops) also the third chamber is a little small for my likings but my reef octopus and mag drive fits nice in it. Also just to let you know jamesdean3 when i simulated a power outage the proflex held all the excess water that poured down and still had room for more. surprisingly this thing holds more water then you think. if i ever build a larger tank then my 90 in the far future i will not think twice on buying a proflex. this thing rocks. the reason why i went this route is because i like the look of a sleek factory look IMO. i figured hey if im going to spend a bunch of money up in the display tank to look nice i might as well make the downstairs look fantastic too.

ps: Even with my skimmer in the third chamber im proudly to say i do not have any micro bubble problems and i see nothing wrong with the skimmer being in the third chamber. It's all in the product and the tune.

Im sure there are people out there that will judge a corvette and its price and talk all the smack in the world till they test one out.
so James dont be so quick to judge till you have seen one up and running in person or better yet in your own house on your system.

I built my first sump from a sheet of acrylic. This way(proflex) was much easier and in the end, with mnimal adjustments, better in many respects.

james doesn't want to come and play hu? lol id like to hear his side of the story since his 40 gallon breeder sump is SOOOO much better. pictures would be nice and a brief description of sound lvl, performance, how long it took to build/cost ect.

I didn't pay even close to 300 for mine. That being said it wasn't cheap either but when your new to the hobby, as I am, I just wanted something that I could get started with. It's confusing enough to just figure out how to get everything set up and running. I looked at a lot of diy sumps and other manufactured ones and thought this one seemed to have it all and would be straight forward. It has gotten a lot of praise from some and also has a lot of detractors but it is what it is. At least aqueon is trying to make it a little more straight forward to get into the hobby IMO. Also they are a pretty big aquaria company and I'd like to think that there was a lot of research put into their design before it went into production. One more thing...I probably bought a size to big for my stand(being bowfront didn't help any) and the 30 minutes of mods for a perfect fit are worth it to me. If I would have got the model 1 it should fit no problem so that was my error but easily fixed. I don't even have it running but I think it will be fine...live and learn I guess. I know I could have started out with worse equipment though

Brought my sump online tonight after a day of plumbing drilling and gluing. The sump is very nice.

The issue is that when leds are pushing $1000+ for anything more than a nano, nearly another grand for a couple vortechs, and a skimmer that is that much or more, suddenly a $2-300 dollar sump doesn't sound like that much.

i think james is just trolling. who just pops in these threads; talks smack and then dont even post back a defense so we can hear about his "SWEET CUSTOM SUMP".
I call trolling!

+1

I am comparing these with the eshopps sumps right now and I wonder which is better.

These hold plenty of water as well from checking the gallons
Model 1- 14g
Model 2 - 23g

etc
