Aqueon Modular ProFlex Sump Filtration

Holy old thread coming back to life! I think i have a model 3. I haven't had my tank running in a couple years now so i can't remember. I plan to start it up this summer tho!!

I have a 20 gallon long main tank, and I use the model 1 for my tank.
you can have a fuge and skimmer, just make sure the skimmer fits in the third section (return pump section.)
And you can even take the skimmer pump and modify it to go to the first section of the sump while the skimmer sits in the second.

That's what I'm going to do. ^^^^

I have to buy a new stand, though. well, more like want to. Because I think is unappealing to anyone who comes over. I'm gonna add ATO, skimmer, and fuge to my sump, So I'm going to want to hide my sump! LOL too much going on down there.

But to answer your question fully....this sump is good if you want to save time from building your own.

Scarface I was looking at pics of your sump setup ( which looks great) and I am trying to duplicate your system. I'm just a little lost on how the water from the reactors make it back into the display tank. Just curious about the plumbing on top of the reactors I couldn't see that well in the pics. Is there any special connectors on the top, or is it just a continuous cycle going through them. Thanks for any help.

I would like for this thread to revive. I have the 3 and have had some issues but for the most part, I like it. Maybe people can start posting some pics of their current sump set ups. I recently made some changes to my system when I moved. Instead of taking up the return section with a skimmer, I got an external and manifolded the set up. Much happier with the little space I now have.

Well I'm in! Picked up my 54 tonight! Can't find a 15 tall but pf is almost same footprint. Next Is sump, any users running the Aqueon Proflex model 1? Fish store said $180 out the door but wanted to research.

Also want to run the sca 301 skimmer here with a Rio 2100 return pump. Tank will be in living room, is Rio quiet? Can I plumb with flex tubing? Any way to use ball valve with flex?

someone has to have a updated review of their Proflex :)

Trying to decide between this and Eshopps 75, if you have model 1 which skimmer do you run? Hope a SCA 301 will fit!

I will have an update on my proflex this winter. I have had my tank sitting empty for almost 3 years now after it crashed and i lost all my coral and fish. Now i will be starting it back up again and cant wait!! I still have about 6 inches of water sitting it the tank and its all crusted with crap. My proflex is in rough shape. I never emptied the water out of it so when the water evaporated all the salt that was left crystallized and is rock hard on the heater i had it in. Hopefully i dont have to buy a new proflex!!

I have not seen that done before. Why do you want the skimmer in the first chamber?

Every sump I have seen other then this style has the skimmer in the first of second chamber.

I was thinking that it would be better for water height to have it in the first or second chamber.

I am going to have to add a ato to my sump to keep the water level consistent in the 3rd chamber so my skimmer works properly

Ya i know its going to be a lot of work, i am going to see if there are some good threads on how to clean up a tank that was left to sit.

Ah ya i see what you mean. My filter socks caught a lot of crap. I would clean them multiple times a week so i dont know if you would want that getting into the skimmer. I didnt have an ato so i had to regularly add water to the sump. The skimmer did fine with the fluctuation in water levels but i did notice from time to time that the skimmer wouldnt work at times if the water got too low. The skimmer bubbles never would reach the collection cup.

what if I was to split the second chamber in half with a piece of egg crate and put the skimmer on one side and the other side would be the fuge. This way the skimmer would be at the same water level 24/7?

Wouldnt the algea grow through the egg crate? I would use plexi glass and just cut it so it fits snug. You would have to modify the top lid if you wanted to still use it or just have a lamp clip on to the side. The chamber is pretty deep im not sure how that would effect the skimmer if thats too much water.

I bought a ato today and Im just going to leave it how it is, when the water level is at the right level the skimmer works perfect in the 3rd chamber.

Plus it will be one less thing I have to try to "make work" :)
