Well I decided to trade my percs for a single maroon, so I am wondering are they dark brown? or are they red? I am looking for a red maroon but I seen so many pics now that I dont know what color are they. So could anyone post pics of their maroons?

They tend to darken up as they get older. At least the ones I've seen. Mine isn't as dark as some and the edge of her fins are a bright orange. I doubt there is a way to tell when you get them tho.

Mine is about 6 years old, I'm not sure if it will get darker or not.

They have a variety of spectrum, and yes they are maroon but that doesnt mean they are maroon I have seen other colors ranging from bright red to brown... So I am looking to see where can I find a red one and if age has something to do with color than so be it.

in my readings about maroons, i learned that males usually stay red much longer when compared to females... but even males, will eventually turn dark with age... most likely after 5 years old...

I have seen some very different looking clowns.. There are some at my LFS that are ~30 years old and the male is relatively dark but definitely maroon and the female is definitely still red but it is again dark.

I wonder are tomatos also this way? If you like that rich velvet-y red color I'm sure theres a clown or two out there that tend to have that type of color when they are older.

Heck, I've seen some percs darken up almost to a red as they age and are actually pretty cool looking and the darker spots that color in when they get older can be neat too.
