Are fish and seahorses compatable?

I have a 30l mini reef with a bicolor blenny, 6 line wrasses, percula clown, cleaner shrimp and a (small) purple lobster. I was wondering if a tr seahorse would make it ok in a tank like this? If not will I have to set up a new tank just to keep a seahorse?

The lobster would be my biggest concern, because in the case that a slow moving seahorse unknowingly floats into his territory, it might attack, which obviously wouldn't be good for the horse.
The percula might also provide a little problem if it's too much of a pig during feedings and the horse doesn't get its proper fill, but you just have to try it and see.

30 Liter tank.... what are the dimensions on that?

but, the tankmates aren't appropriate for horses, not really... the bicolor is too fast and aggresssive, same for the 6 line (usually) and a pair of clowns is going to try to shove the seahorses around.

PLUS the lobster is a HUGE NO-NO... to predatory, and horses are very easy to catch and eat.

Ok, So i take it that putting them in my 30L is not going to work.

I have a 20L and about 20 lbs of lr, That I can set up for a seahorse tank. Will this work?

Please tell me a 20L will work because that all I've got. I'm really looking forward to this after reading this forum. But if its too small please let me know and I will just have to wait.

that 20g will depend... some horses will just grow too large to be happy in a tank that size. I had two H. Comes in a 20g for a few weeks, but that was temporary to 1) see if I could keep them and 2) the 38g was cycling.
I do agree that your 30 is already stocked to capacity.
Check out your local paper, people are always selling tanks! You might find something really nice for a great price!

yup-seahorses need about 3x thier adult height. for the big species, that amounts to about a 2 foot tall tank. a standard 29 gallon aquarium works great for that, and has the same footprint as the 20L.

The reason I want to use my 20 LONG is because it has a built in overflow and pump compartment in the left corner of the tank. Its kinda set up like a nano cube. I wanted to utilize this tank for something. And I can't justify to the wife why I shoud need buy another tank, when I already have on that is not in use. And a bigger tank means more rock$$ Also this will be the forth saltwater tank in the house. So basically if it will not house seahorses I will just have to use it for something else.

I think my wife is cool with the idea of the new tank because of all the pictures on this forum. Ok, this is what I've found. A 30 cube or a 30 hex is what is available locally. Which one will benefit me more, or should I say which one will the seahorses like more? Either one I will have to get more rock. But my question is how much rock to put into a 30 gallon seahorse tank?

I have a 30-ish hex... its about 24" tall, so I think a 30 hex would be about as tall... maybe a little less... it has 40 lbs of rock, but its heck to get aquascaped... I want to dig in there as soon as my salt gets here for a big ole water change/scrub down of the rocks, and rearangement.

but, 1 lb per gallon in a hex works fine, just have to be a bit more inventive than with other tanks.

the 30 (29 gallon standard size) is perfect for horses also!!! 1-2 lbs of rock a gallon standard also.
