Are my firefish a pair?

Recently I purchased 2 red Firefish for my newly established 33 gallon reef tank. At the LFS they were sticking together and I saw no signs of aggression.
In my tank they share a cave and hover together in the water column.
They are the only fish in the tank so far.

Are they a pair? Should I separate them?

Thanks!

Unless they were an established pair (doubtful) you will end up with one. Could take a week. Could take 4 months but only one will usually remain.

Thanks guys. I'm noticing one firefish being aggressive to the other one, he is nibbling on the other one's tail. I'm trying to catch the injured one to put him in quarantine and it's pretty much impossible!!! Any tips?

See if you can use a piece of eggcrate to pen the injured one in the corner so you can catch him.

I did the same. They were side by side for about 3-4 weeks. Now we are on month two and one is hiding in a cave on the other side while the other is out 24/7 in front of his cave.

I'm hopefull we can all be friends.

Thanks for the replies! Every time I put my hand in the tank they both dart back to their holes. I'm currently trying a minnow trap but they don't seem too interested in it.
