Are ornamental decorations in a reef o.k.?

Yeah I meant no copper too, but I thought that was a given. Brass is what most people get fooled with. Your buddah's just going to dissolve and disappear if you keep it in there, salt water is really corrosive on most metals. If you want shiny coins try some gold or silver foil wrapped around a frag plug. I think aluminum is safe for reefs. I don't know how it'll withstand the saltwater though.

I'm fixin' to get those pennies out and was thinking that if I spray on some kind of waterproof laquer on the buddah it would protect him from corosion and from leaking out any hazards. I will post how it works out.

It may just be better to take buddah out and replace him with something else! Sorry, I didn't realize that it was metal either!

Yeah... the lacquer is probably not a good idea either. Saltwater is rather corrosive to many materials, and should those materials pollute your water, it can have a devastating affect on your livestock. As a general rule to follow to be really safe - if you don't find it naturally occurring where your tank friends live, then you should probably skip putting it into your tank.

You should come to the MARS meetings, there is a lot of good info shared, even some of the basic stuff like not putting metal objects in saltwater.

where is that thread where everything in the guy's tank died and when he emptied the sump, he found some pennies in it.
