Are sohal tangs ich magnets

All tangs are more prone to ick than other fish.Sohal are the least but still could happen.Just make sure you acclimate properly and water quality is on point. The powders and hippos are by far the worst imo.

Your system either has Ich or it doesn't.
The type of fish you get doesn't have any bearing on that so long as you QT and prophylactically treat for Ich before introducing new arrivals to your display tank. (this includes corals and live rock/sand, and anything else that could harbor an unhatched Ich cyst.)

If your system already has an Ich infestation then no matter what kind of tang or fish you introduce, you are taking the chance of the new fish succumbing to the infestation and dying and/or setting off a chain reaction in the other inhabitants.

If your system doesn't have Ich then it doesn't matter what type of fish you get, just so long as you follow proper husbandry and treat it before you add it.

Mother fish

i understand everything in your post but my question was not answered

when ich is present do sohal tangs atch it as easy as powder blues would be another way to ask the question

Is it a bad time to say sohals need at least an 8' tank;)

i'm not the tang police, but I do feel this is one tang for 500 gallons or more. They get more aggressive as they get bigger.

hop would it work in tank bigger than 5oog and longer than 8 foot? im looking at something a lot bigger than 500g tank size is not my issue.. but how resistant to ich are sohals compared to other tangs in general...that seems to be the question everybody is dancing around answering

I thought it was answered so I didn't add to it;) They are one of the better tangs IMO, as long as you can tend to their needs and habitat. Never owned one, but have seen a few in tanks. I researched one when I had the 450 and elected not to get one as I didn't think I had enough room with the naso I had.

I love this fish. He's about 7.5" long now and He is beautiful. My favorite fish yet. He is also mean as hell.

The ick part can happen to any fish. If you have a healthy system then your fish will be healthy. Definitely qt it before your display.
