Are the URI VHO bulbs URI?

Greetings:

The last two orders of URI Super Actinic and 50/50 have not had the URI logo on them...

In addition, the URI Super Actinic are a completely different color spectrum?? they show more white than the dark blue of the 24 bulbs we have purchased from you guys in the last 2 years>

I did not notice on the last order due to the fact we changed only two of four URI bulbs. Then, today, I went to change the other two with two from a recent order and removed the wrong bulbs because they were twice as light as the OLD bulbs?

and then I noticed that there was no URI on the bulbs...

then, when I took the bulbs out and replced with the new bulbs, the color in the tank (w/metal halides off) was twice as light as the ones removed...

please advise..

Hi RJ,
I just replied to your email.
Basically, URI stopped making their own bulbs and they now purchase import them from Asia and this is why they do not have the URI logo on them.
The bulbs though, burn exactly the same as the old ones. I just did some tests with some bulbs with the URI logo on them and some of the new bulbs without the logo and the spectrum is the same.
I provided you with the phone number for URI so you can call them and find out if the bulbs could be defective in any way.

Let me know how it turns out.

thanks for the quick reply ...

.. we use 440 watts of URI Super Blues on our 300 gallon for morning and evening lighting,

when the new bulbs are on by themselves they are brighter and the color of the corals is not as deep as were with the old uri'..

Yet, with 10K MH bulbs and the new Actinics, the color is BETTER..

so we went and purchased 6 -40 watt Actinics that are like the old URI in visual color and placed for morning and evening..

6 -40 watt on at 7 am -to 1:30 am

4 -URI 110 watt 10 am to 12:30 am

3 -250 watt 10k 11 am (each staggered on and off by 1 hours)

1- 11 am to 7pm

2- 12 pm to 8 pm

3- 1 pm to 9 pm

so, the 40 watters give us the deeper/darker color for early and late cycles...and i am happy..

now, i hope the chinese bulbs last as well as the URI MADE!

thanks again

BTW: we use Tunze Streams but decided to invest in one of the new RIO (SEIO Super Flow) pumps to see if we could replece all our other powerheads, i must say, that little pump is the best inexpensive powerhead we have yet to find...

I belive the version we received from you guys is the 800+ gallon per hour, are you guys going to handle the larger sized models?

I plan to rid our other tanks of any and all power heads for this new pump...

Hi RJ,
Well, the warranty is the same, so the new bulbs should not give you any longevity problems.
Those little SEIO pumps are indeed pretty good, although I hear they do not do well on a wavemaker, so just let them run 24/7.
We do have plans on carrying the larger SEIO pumps and we will have them available as soon as they come out.

RJ,
I received a call from URI about the info I posted on my previous message. I was wrong about some info.
The bulbs are still manufactured here in the US. The reason for the omission of the URI logo on the bulb is due to the company that will be changing names soon. Once the company completes the name transition, the logo will be added again.
