Are there any dips/treatments for frags to rid coral pests AND ich??

As the title states, Im looking for an answer to this question... A little background here: I have a 150g that I upgraded to a few months ago. Ive been QT'ing every fish that goes in and dosing copper and prazipro in my qt tank but ich found its way into my display and has killed several fish. The problem was that the rock in the dt came from my previous tank that had ich so qt'ing fish for my new tank was almost pointless.

Fast forward to today, I removed ALL remaining fish and will run the tank fallow for 10 weeks to rid the ich. My fish are being medicated in qt and all new fish will also undergo qt BUT what about new corals?? I know people qt corals but I cant setup another tank (wife will kill me) so is there anything I can do to dip the corals that will kill ichso i can avoid the qt process?? I dont think the common dips like coralrx will work so I need help. My tank has some sps, lps, and rics and i'd like to add 5-10 more sps frags to it but have this issue. I dont want to run the tank fallow for almost 3 months to see ich in there that came in on a coral frag... no no. I'd almost rather not add any other corals than see ich again!!!!!!
:furious:

Im probably asking for too much here but i hope theres a good answer to my question...

Thanks

Huh? Please provide detailed responses. I was wondering if a coral dip like coralrx followed by a FW dip would would work. And if so how long of a FW dip? Can I FW dip inverts as i will eventually need more CUC...?

He means to take all the inverts out and QT them, in your DT

From About.com

"Hyposalinity is a simple, effective, and natural way to help rid fish and fish-only aquariums of ich infestations, without harming the animals or the system. When the amount of salt in water is lowered, it results in a lowering of the "osmotic pressure" of the water as well, thus the related name Osmotic Shock Therapy (OST). Fish and a few other creatures can adjust to this change in pressure around them, but ich organisms cannot. Reduce this necessary pressure, and they literally explode!"

So in theory in a QT tank you could run hyposalinity before adding live rock.

Inverts can stay in the display, they can not handle hypo. I have seen no data regarding what coral dips will kill the ich parasites on corals. It is possible though.

I thought running my dt fallow i could leave inverts in there. This is confusing

You can... Without a host(fish), the parasite will die off. No need to remove inverts or anything aside from fish.

I'm not familiar with any dip to kill Ich, fw won't do it. Cutting the base off of the new frags will help, but still no gaurantee.

There is no dip that will kill Ich.

I myself set up a divided, 'duplex' tank for QT-ing fish on one side and corals on the other.

"But honey, it's just ONE tank!!" :D

I like the idea; does it have separate filtration and/or sumps?

To OP, no.

I called Seachem and asked this very question about their "Reef Dip" product and they said it WILL kill ich BUT only in the free swimming state NOT in the egg state. They went on to say that they are not aware of anything that will totally eradicate ich in every state as a coral dip.

I dip all my corals in coral rx and it works great no problems yet knock on wood...LOL I don't think there is a product on the market for corals that eradicate's ich completely if there is I like to know...Good luck

Ozone works very well to eradicate ich. I have used it and after a year or so with no new fish you can take it (the generator) out of the system if you wish. Its simple, no fuss, no drawbacks, and is the most effective anti ich treatment that i have seen in over 40 years of keeping fish. I dont understand why people dont use it and be done with their ich problems.

With ozone, fish like the powder blue and kole tang havn;t shown ich spots in years. i have had it unhooked from the system now for over a year and still no spots.

Never knew that. Your fish/corals look beautiful.

I reread my original post and would like to (need to) add that there are "possible" drawbacks to using ozone. It does kill all organics in your water column, it can degrade pvc, and it is toxic to all animals if you over dose. So do your homework, but using ozone or UV to treat for water born pathogens makes keping many of your "difficult" fish much easier in the long term.
