Are there any good ATO systems out there

I am looking at ATO systems. Are they worth the money, or can i make a "just as good" system, meaning discreet and clean and reliable. I dont mind spending a pile of money, but if they are just a "cheap" device that any fool can build, then i will build it instead.

I saw a tunze osmolator(i think) on an online store, know anything about those kind of things?

I have one and I think it's worth every penny.

The Tunze Osmolator uses infared sensing eyes instead of moving parts on float switches to detect the water level. I believe that it also has a redundant feature to keep from burning out a pump / ph if the water in the resivoir gets too low. From the reviews I have read, the osmolator is a great peice of equip. I use floats on a controller to run a top off program and it works well. If I did not have a controller, I'd go with the Tunze.

FWIW

I have an Aquacontroller 3 and still prefer the tunze for top off because just as Henry says it doesn't rely on a cheap float switch for the top off function only as a failsafe for flooding. Also has a timer so that if for any reason the sensor doesn't detect the water it shuts off the pump to prevent flooding and burning up the pump.

We bought a Tunze Osmolator a few months ago and love it. Simple, reliable, and well worth the money it saves me in time.

I have had real good luck running JBJ's ATO. Its fairly inexpensive and it works great. It's hooked to an aqualifter and it employs a failsafe timer, in case any float gets stuck it will only run for 3 to 15 minutes (adjustable). With an aqualifter pump (pumps 3.5 gph max) the worst cast scenario is that if a float gets stuck the most it will pump is about 3/4 gallon of water. I have had it a month and I have yet to have a float get stuck, but I hear it can happen. I think what sold me on this ato was the failsafe feature, better safe then sorry.
