Are there any tricks to mixing salt water?

Just curious, how do make your salt water?

It seems that I add the proper ratios but always are left with some salt and the bottom of the container.

I have a 50 gallon mixing container. Fill it up with water add a bag of 50 gallon salt mix and let it sit overnight with a heater and a large powerhead.

I would guess you need to mix your water more to get it to dissolve. I always let my saltwater mix for 24 hours prior to use. This helps to make sure the salt completely dissolves, is at the proper temperature and is at the proper ph.

About the same as above. I fill a 35 gallon trash can about 25 gallons full with RO water, add the salt, drop in a heater and a mag 5 and throw a lid on it. Come back the next day and do the water change.

I mix mine about 5 days in advance. Add salt to the water, throw in a small power head, check SG and adjust it the next day. Voila!!
