Are these aptasia? pics

Is this aptasia? This big monster, almost as big in diameter as a quarter, won't DIE! Their are tinier ones behind it that don't want to die very easy either.
I have aptasia stop and have injected it (all of them) about 5 times. It will shrink, then come back in a day or so. Same goes for the small green ones that are stinging my RPE's.

It is so hard to get them because they dart back into their little holes. The big one is on a HUGE rock that can't be taken out of the tank, to kill it.

Is this just a crappy product (hope not at 20.00 a bottle NOT including the syringe)or are they NOT aptasia?

What else can I try before my tank is full of these suckers.

The top pic certainly looks like an Aiptasia species to me (there are a few types of 'glass anemone'). The bottom ones might be majanos, I'm really not sure - do the tips of their tentacles bubble out more at times (like a BTA)? I've never heard of green Aiptasia, but majanos and tulip anemones come in all sorts of pretty colours. Regardless, you should be able to zap them with kalk paste.

Mix up a thick (toothpaste consistency) mix of kalk and water. Use a pipette or syringe to 'feed' the paste to the 'nem, and then when it closes up, bury it in paste. Do this with the pumps off, as you don't want the paste to land on and burn your corals. After the paste sits for a few minutes, you can turn the pumps back on - unless there's strong flow directly on that spot, it will stay in place IME. If you don't want to leave it, you can always use the syringe to remove the paste and the remains of the nem before you turn the pumps on, but IME they grow back about 50% of the time when I do this. Leaving the paste usually results in one very dead anemone that doesn't regrow.

The bottom one looks much like a Zoanthid... Well, I am not sure of the exact species but I do know they are predatory but in my tank they do not proliferate - they do not sting anything either.

I'm going to agree that the top one is an aiptasia but the 2nd doesn't look like it. I use either Joe's Juice and kind of drop it on them or I inject them with boiling water.

Yes, the top pic deffinently looks like an aptasia. I've injected them with lemon juice, and it has worked wonderfully. I'm not sure about the other two tho, could be majanos.

I've heard of great results with the kalk paste too.

Just do not try to scrape them off or anything physical like that, it will just cause them to spread like mad (personal experience).

I don't think the bottom two are Majano, I had an outbreak of those as well and they are not nearly as bad as aptasia.

I doubt very much that the bottom two pics are Paly's.

Look how bad they are stinging the Zoas next to them, every one is cured up on the edge and not doing very well.

They must be a pest anenome, what type is irrelevant, only the fact that they are doing damage. The top is definately an aip. Get rid of them all.

You got a point HBTank. That was something that I overlooked. But they do look like long tentacled polyps of some sort.

The green ones, next to the RPE polyps, are not majano, as I know what those look like as I have had two of them before. They aren't a polyp either because they shrink right back into their holes if they are touched, just like an anemone. If it was a polyp, wouldn't it just close rather than "run" into its hole?

laslo-thanks for letting me know not to scrape or cut them off. I REALLY had been thinking about it. I just could never grab it with the tongs.

One thing I haven't done is turn off all my powerheads and skimmer when I try to inject them. I will give that a shot before I move to another method.

How long should I keep the skimmer off afterwards??
I think a few peppermint shirimp are in my near future. =)

I use Aptasia Control (looks like Kalk paste) with pretty good success on mine, and I've had some big ones. Turn off your powerheads and completely coat the big ones and let it sit for 1/2 hour. Some can be in tough spots but you'll eventually get them.

I don't have any kalkwasser, but I do have another calcium supplement powder. Can I make a paste with that or does it need to be kalkwasser?

And after a half hour, what do I do with the paste? Do I leave it on or scrape it off or what?

And all the other polyps in your tank will be gone in two days.


I just leave the paste there. It eventually just dissolves. It never seems to cause problems as long as giant blobs don't fall on stuff you want to keep.

so can I make it using sea chem reef advantage calcium? It is just sitting in my cabinet as I don't even use it. I use C-balance.
