Are These Flatworms?

Hello Everybody,

I need some help, can anybody tell me if these are flatworms, I thought it was just some kind of growth starting up in that area as it has been getting bigger, but then I saw it on the back of the aquarium and think from what I remember seeing it looks similar, the problem is my new camera hasn't come in yet so I can get up close detailed pictures, but I am just hoping that someone will just be able to identify them right off the bat, I haven't noticed any on any of my corals whatsoever, I see some stranglers here and there on the rock, if they are even worms, I have no idea, anyway, here are the pictures.

Thanks ahead of time for all the help.

unfortunately, they are. i used Salifert Flatworm exit and dosed accordingly. simply loved the sight upon dosing the very first time, most of the flatworms actually floated to the surface.
word of caution though, get ready to replace carbon frequently as these worms release toxic when died. standby some newly mixed-water or seawater to change every alternate day or so.
after battling for a month or so, i am glad tha saga was over. what i did was kept dosing half of what recommended the first round and wouldn't compromise on the risk of crashing the tank.

Thanks for the advice, that was my concern, I did purchase some flatworm exit just in case the other day, and for a dip recipe I will be using on everything and anything that enters my tank from now on, so you just dosed half of the recommended dose and it worked fine, what about the carbon, how often did you end up changing your carbon, I use carbon in a phosban reactor, as well as phosban, do I need to replace my phosban as well, or should I just unhook the one with phoasban in it before I dose the flatworm exit and put it back on the system when things are under control. Yes, and also, don't sixline wrasses eat them, my fear of getting one of those is it will eat all of my pods, not that they are that important.

I bought a sixline wrasse and he definently wiped out the masses, everyone once in a while ill see some in the over flow box, but you dont see any around the corals anymore... So the few that live mulitiply to create food for the 6 line wrasse.

they'll eat frozen food and will usually eat flake and pellet

I'm I blind? why can't I see the worms, what color and where bout are they?

I think they are round headed flat worms. If that is true, you should quit adding water, and bend over with your head between your legs.

six line wrasses are great for flatworm eradication.... and they are very hardy and except just about any food. just becareful adding any other wrasses to the tank!

I will definitley order one then if I can find one, the weird thing is I don't see them on any corals at all, and I was even down there for a long time last night with a flashlight looking at all the corals and nothing, and I know they have probably been in there for sometime.

They are about in the middle of the picture on the rock between the Xenia and the frag plug, they are the red dots on the rock, my camera sucks at close ups, but just ordered my new one today $1400 later, better be a good one.

Wrasse is on the way, figured I would pick up some Blue Mushrooms as well for my 40G I just started up to make sure its ready to go.

Well the wrasse is supposed to arrive today from liveaquaria.com, I don't get it, usually when I order from them it comes from wisconsin, but sometimes, I guess depending on what corals and livestock I order, it comes from California, which sucks because I usually only like to order livestock from places that are only like a state away, less mileage equals less banging around, oh well, I haven't had any losses from them yet, so I guess its working out just fine, well once I get this guy in and maybe after a couple days I will treat with some flatworm exit and do water changes and keep my carbon ready to go, I am going to try and siphon out as many of them as I can first though, and from now on I will be dipping anything that goes in my tank, probably going to purchase a small tank to use as a QT tank, everything I put in that tank came from very reputable coral and livestock dealers, goes to show you anything can happen, and next will be dealing with the Zoo eating nudi's, man!!!!

I just found some in my tank as well. Here is an article someone gave me to look at.

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/flatworms.htm

Your's look similar to mine, they are about 3/4 the way down the page under the heading "Parasitic Flatworms: Black-Spot Disease of Yellow Tangs". I think that is why there not on the coral!!

I haven't read it yet, but you say Black-Spot Disease of yellow tangs, thats interesting because both my Clowns have Black Dots on them and haven't been able to find any info on black spots, they just started showing up, I wonder if thats what is going on, I will have to read that link, thanks for the info

So I am going to go ahead and dose some Flatworm Exit, do you guys have any advice, I mean do I need to remove as many snails and crabs as I can, will it kill these guys or will they be ok, I am thinking of starting out at an extremely low dose and see if that does anything, I am gonna hook up my HOT Magnum with some carbon in it soon after I dose and have some water ready to go for water changes, also gonna do like it says on the box and suck out as many of them as I can before I even do dose, also thinking of putting my prefilter sponge back in my overflow to try to catch them before they go down into the refugium and sump. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Clint
