Are these reaching for light?

These two blue spotted purple shrooms have been in this spot for over three years. I would think they would have moved up the rock some if they were wanting more light.

But lately they have been stretching out from under the rock and cupping as if they were trying to catch something....the light. Why now, all of the sudden?

Can they sense if something new is around them, and their fighting the neighboring corals for their share of the light? I ask because I do have a few xenia frags on the sand in front of them. And now an anemone I put in last week decided to take residence near the shrooms.

Maybe that weed is ticking them off. If you had them for three years and you only have 2 and they have not expanded-then I would say move them up.
The reds that you have will get VERY bright under intense light.

Why do you have a tang in a 30gl tank? Just curious? and good luck

That xenia is about 6 inches in front of it. It never comes in contact with it. I don't have a prop tank, so they gotta go somewhere.

Tang? I don't have no stinkin' tang. J/K.
There was one in there a year ago or so that I was holding for someone. It hasn't been there for a while.

I have looked at this thread for a few days now. I kind of think they are fine. I know mushrooms will fold a litlte to allow the ones around them to grow up against them and they flex and do all kinds of wacky stuff "normally"

I'd just keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Now there was another thread I saw somewhere where the stalks on a mush were like 1-3inches long..t hats stretching for light!

If you have had them for three years and you have no new polyps sprout, then they are too low-or not getting enough light/food. They will survive and not grow where they are, but that is not what you want- otherwise you would of not started the thread. If you want growth then I would move them up. JMHO

They look fine to me. Mine go thru stages where they will stand up about 2-3" tall just at different times of the day or week. If they really want more light they might move on thier own, since they can.

When they are stretching like that, you can see several small mushrooms under them. As for growth, they get about 5" across when fully expanded.

I do believe if they were unhappy, they would creep up the rocks. And maybe they will do just that.

Oh they are sprouting babies? Mine will stretch or shrink if there are babies near to let light on to them. Is this possibly what is going on?

I never thought about that.....I have lots of them but never noticed the babies until they are bigger.
