Are these T5 lights any good

if it has 4 reflectors, one for each bulb, then it is probably decent, but if not, its worthless. t-5 need good reflectors, icecap are the best, followed by aqualux, then tek.

No...Im 99% sure it doesnt come with decent reflectors. Save your money and get a TEK fixture or retro with icecap reflectors.

That unit does not have individual reflectors but I would hardly call it 'worthless'. It will perform similar to a 4 X 65 watt PC fixure and will be adequate for all the highest PAR requiring corals and clams IMO.

BTW..... that unit is on sale at Dr. Foster & Smith now I believe for under 200.00, or at least it was.

the Nova Extreme comes with one reflector for all bulbs. It's not worthless, but it's not one of the better T5 fixtures out there....

i saw this at the LFS and they seem bright enough for softies, however if you are going to do sps go with the TEK light! I got the 6 bulb TEK light and my birds nest has grown over 1 1/2 inch per month since. My acros and monti's have grown also but not as fast. The TEK light has individual lights with reflectors and they also use German made Geiseman bulbs.

That light is decent enough for all softies and lps. For sps, you would probably have to keep them up real high.

I have a aquatinics 5x39w T5 system (each with individual reflectors) and I'm loving it.

Spend a bit more and get a more decent light like the aquatinics or the Tek Light.

Mike

You guys should sticky a thread that says the nova extreme is not as good as tek or aqutincs. I wondered the same thing before I got my tek system. I am very happy with it.
