Armor of God now and then plus some new zoos...

I know this is a poor pic, but I was wondering what these are called...

Ok, found the thread :)

Al, I named the Armor of God zoa when I uploaded the pic to ZoaID. I originally got it as a single polyp from a LFS. And he only had a small frag.

The Armageddons you see in my pics with the AOG came from Whodah at frag swap last June. Whodah and I traded some stuff earlier this year, so he has AOG as well.

I've only been trading and giving away a few AOG here and there locally. I think my LFS has sold some AOG online.

Jabol's AOG looks like one of the frags my LFS grew out. I recognize the frag disc, and the temporary blotchy pattern on the zoa. For some reason, AOG gets upset and turns blotchy for a short while when they're fragged at my LFS. Haven't seen that in my tank though. If those didn't come from the Bay Area, then it's just a coincidence I guess :)

thats really interesting. you west coast guys are so lucky to get the original stuff before everyone else get it ;)

so, have you seen a AOG that didnt originate from your lineage, or the LFS you got them from? i know thats hard to track down, but very interesting to hear about.

the LFS that me and twon saw them at, these frags were on frag discs exactly like Jabol's. and i'm pretty sure when the lady told me they were armageddons, she stated they were $120 for the frag b/c they were "specially ordered from someone in california".

any chance you got a link to the site your LFS is sellin stuff on? i'm curious as to all the good stuff you guys have at your finger tips over there ;)

thats for the info mr. ugly! :D

Al,

LFS is www.newalameda.com

He's not as big for online compared to the other places out here.

He's been using the Boston Aquafarms discs, in addition to other ones. He has a few Armageddons, but I don't think he has sold any yet.

Re Armageddon II - that is a name that Ultimate Frags put on one of the zoas that showed up earlier this year. Other people have been throwing around all kinds of other names for it :)

thanks for the link, wow, they have some very interesting morphs ive never seen before. any other LFS websites from cali you wanna share? man, you guys are so lucky. ;)

mr. ugly, was just looking at zoaid... the one named "goochsters", looks exactly the same to me... greenish skirt w/ greenish mouth. could these pics be the same thing as AOG?

Haven't seen those in person, so not sure. But I did wonder after seeing them on ZoosRus.

Other Cali sites? Well, a lot of the stores are getting their stuff from the same wholesalers, so as long as the store makes a point to get the nicer pieces, they all end up with a lot of the same stuff.

The owner of NAA likes zoas and blastos, so he had been trying to snag the nicer ones of those. He's getting more into cool sps now though. I'm too lazy to drive all over the place, so for zoas I've mainly been getting stuff from NAA.

I'm told that Ultimatefrags does what it takes to get the nicer/nicest zoas for his store. And everybody has seen his stuff online :)

Looks like Marineflora got hooked up with a good source of zoas too. The owner is from one of the other clubs. I've met him at swaps a bunch of times and he's another 100% decent guy.

Check out the RC club forums for Bay Area Reefers and Marine Aquarist Roundtable of Sacramento to get an idea of the local stores people like.

thats a good pic! thanks! and thanks to jeremy.

maybe its just my monitor, but dont the other armor of god pics show a slightly greenish skirt? in that picture the skirts in the center ones look dark brown. could just be the lighting and/or flash. its so hard to tell with this stuff hehe

only reason i question this stuff, is b/c i saw a frag of about 10poyps in a LFS that was being sold for $120. a lady who worked their said it was called armageddons (before i really knew what one was). they were under VHO actinics, so i never really thought much of them. they were still there two months later, but now under really good halides and they definitely had a greenish skirt and greenish mouth, like Jabol posted, and looked amazing! the second time i visited the store i was looking at something else, and the store owner just mentioned the ones he used to be selling that were now in his show tank (i guess cuz no one bought them due to the price), and he said they were "people eaters". so it doesnt really sound like they know what they are talking about, or they are just going for the $.

regardless, i think what you guys are calling "armor of gods", is the ones that were in the store, and look much cooler than the armageddons. i just dont like being told something with a fancy name to justify the asking price.

in your guys opinions, which are going for the higher prices? and why? just curious.
