askoll 1500 on ER 250

How do you guys think it would do. I wasn't to happy with the gen-x that came with it. I have a modded OR 6500 on it now but it runs pretty warm. I don't want to buy a new skimmer because the body on this one is still in great shape.

I tried a Askoll 1500 on a Vertex 250, which is 30 tall with a 4" neck. It was to much air and the bubbles collapsed violently. I believe the bodies are very similar. I highly suggest you use another pump.

I bet if the output on the askoll was restricted it would work. It really imo depends on how large diameter the standpipe is and how high it is. You can run it on the msx200 which is quite a bit shorter than the er250 at 65scfh and it works well. You may need to cut the standpipe a bit lower too. I think it would be a good match. My buddy is thinking about doing this exact mod to his er250.

I'm runningone on my MSX200 with the extended neck. I cut my stand pipe down, raised my skimmer to run in 7&1/2" water height which gives me great control over the flow. Kicks out nice dark skimmate now that it's been running awhile.

I think you will find that if restricted, it will work fine. In our testing I've found that the Askoll 1500 skimmer pumps handle head pressure pretty good, so don't expect a ton of air loss from head pressure. The easiest thing to do to restrict the air/water flow is to choke down the output. For a 4" neck I would shoot for 50-60SCFH depending on the neck height...what is the inside dia of the neck and the neck height? That will determine how much air you SHOULD put into that skimmer...of course you can go with quite a bit more air, but the water level will be very low in the body and you run the chance of getting "gunk" in the top of the body and the neck transition.
