ASM G2 Mod Question

This could apply to different skimmer's....anyhow had some time on my hands so I do the Gate Valve Mod on my ASM G2. Tried different ways to get the BIG 1 1/4 gate valve to fit, with no luck so I have to rise my skimmer up about 4 ". Didn't think it would cause a problem, before doing the mod my skimmer body use to full completely up with bubbles from top to bottom.....now its only above the pump inlet.....don't know if this will cause a problem.?
any suggestions....see photos below

i dont think it should cause a problem brian, if anything your probably getting more bubbles more concentrated higherr up then before.

i have mine seriously modded, running a sedra 5000 recirculating, with a mesh mod, and my bubbles are still at about where yours are at in the body, maybe an inch or 2 lower.

Cool thanks Jaymie.....Just for the heck of it I put the old standpipe back on and the bubble remained the same....so it must have something to do the rising the skimmer and pump.
I put 3 layers of mesh on when I had the pump out but didn't cut any of the pins off (yet) just wanted to see If I would get a finer bubble
I only have the 3500 and heard the mesh mod didn't make that much of a difference.
Thanks Dude

Im thinking about putting a 90 of maybe a "T" inside the skimmer on the outlet of the pump. instead of having the stream shoot around the skimmer body.????????

Ok seem better now....I installed a "T" on the inlet of the pump inside the skimmer and now the bubbles are colliding together and are almost to the bottom of the skimmer

I hate to be the opposition but i do believe it makes a difference. I tried my skimmer at different water levels and it seems that the skimmer does better in deeper water. Mind u I have a reef octopus but I would think the logic is the same. I think it has something to do with the pressure the water puts on the pump. the deeper the pump the more pressure it receives to get water in it.

How deep is you pump under water ?....mine is right at 8"
Rob over at ASM said you get the best perfprmance at 6" to 10"

Ok I went ahead and replace the pump with a Gen-x 2400 NW
Fogot I had a new one sitting around for something.....no mesh mod just stock pump....looks better now. Look after 2 hours the cup is getting filled with gunk.....Plus my skimmer body is filled with bubbles top to bottom

Ive got my skimmer sitting in 9" of water
Does the body of your skimmer fill with bubbles

BTW seem like the Gen-X 2400 needles wheel pump is the same as the Sedra 3500....But the big difference is the Sedra 3500 is 350 gph....and the Gen-X 2400 is 635 gph....both pumps are the same size and use the same parts......wish sh I had one of those air gadgets to measure air intake

how do you like the sound of the gen-x is it quiet. i tried a used one that was super loud.
Jess dont hear mind at all

Don't get me wrong My skimmer was working great.....I've had all these parts to do the mod and never got around to it......Time will only tell.
(Hey look at it this way.......I had the weekend off and didn't spend a dime, so my little project kept be busy.

Yeah its completely full almost to the bottom. I think theres a 1/2" gap where there arent any but it needs to be that way to avoid bubbles from going back into the sump
