ASM G3 replacement pump

I am thinking of replacing my Sedra 5000 with the Sicce w/ the big red needlewheel.

I ended up replacing my sedra with a tunze hydrofoamer in my G4. the tunze was a little higher priced, but the skimmer rocks now.

I am pretty sure the sicce is very comaprable. I for sure would not go with another sedra

I tried the psk2500 on my G3, it totally blew. I have the exact setup you linked sitting in a box. I have tried numerous pumps for my G3, the Sicce, Ocean Runner, Laguna 900 and 1500 and nothing performed as well as the Sedra. The Sedra 5000 is the right balance of air and water. I have not tried the new PSK1000 but it would be a better fit than the psk2500. My G3 is recirculating, which would make it easier on the pump, no head to overcome, and the psk2500 was not able to get enough air into the skimmer. I really wanted to get away from the Sedra, but in the end it is still the right pump for the G3 body. I have a box of skimmerpumps, if you want to try the Sicce for yourself, go for it, but don't use the 2500.

Which hydrofoamer? The smaller or the bigger?

I used the larger one for my G4, but I had to restrict the air intake quite a bit. If you go with the tunze, go with the smaller one on the G3

I had a sedra 5000 and a 9500 on my G4, one for a feed and one for a recirc. It did a really good job and produced a nice consistent head. the feed died, so I was going to replace it with the sicce 2500, but it was on back order and I needed a pump soon.

The tunze mounted right up no problems at all. It did take a little while to break in, but once it got good and broke in I found that it actually performed better without the recirc sedra. (as the other poster mentioned, it was just too much air). Once I got the water level set, and found the sweet spot with the air mixture, this thing rocks. And I am using almost no power compared to the sedra power pigs (no heat either)

Thanks. I'm gonna try the small Hydrofoamer Silence. Not only does it sound like it pumps a lot of air, it also uses almost no electricity.

on my ASM G3 and so far it has pulled more gunk in 4 hours than it did with the Sedra 5000 had in 2 weeks.

Its an expensive upgrade, but I think it really makes the ASM an efficient skimmer at low energy consumption.

That's what I like to hear. IIRC Sicce makes the motor block for Tunze, that's a very low wattage pump.

$153 or replace the impeller for $50. From what I read the Tunze doesn't need impeller replacement for years if routinely serviced. Less wattage and less replacement is a win win.
