ASM G3 Skimmer Gate Valve Mod Not Working

I just hooked up the gate valve mod following instructions posted on http://www.asmskimmer.com/mod1.htm.

Since I have a G3, I followed the instructions for the alternate installation but no matter how open or closed the valve is it always overflows into the cup immediately. Does the adjustable standpipe have to be a certain height? The instructions and picture are not quite as clear as the instructions for the g4-g6.

Thanks,
Chris

I'll try lower it some. It can't go too far or the valve will be underwater but I"ll give it a try.

thanks

when i used the gvm on mine, it was with the tube completly down.
If that causes valve to be submerged, you need to raise your skimmer.

You see because of that i use a different set up on my G3.
I use 11/4" pipe in the grey G3 pipe a 1 1/4" to 1" reducing PVC bussing and the rest was all 1" everything even the valve i had no problem with adjustments . My skimmer look like the first picture of your link but all 1" .
But i'm sure you now have all the 1 1/4 parts so yes the valve going to be under water but after you set it up you don't need to do any more adjustments also you have to have the outflow pipe above water.

Thanks for the help. I lowered the riser tube all the way. I think I have it working now. The outflow pipe is underwater though. Will that cause a problem?

as long as the top of the tee is out the water. you should be ok, if its submerged, you'll have fluctuating water level in your skimmer. sometimes dry, sometime overflowing.

Is this a resirculating skimmer or a regular G3 with the a GV modification? .
If is RC you can raise your skimmer some but if is the regular you have no chose, it will not cause any problems just that you have to put your hand in the water every time you need to adjust the skimmer but when you done adjusting you are set. also you can use a rubber glove so your hand don't get in the water.

Go to the ASM skimmer club thread and look at the way Bill and Elaine did their gate valve mod. There are pictures and a description and it worked much better for me.
