ASM G3 250g performance with and without GATE VALVE

I bought a virtually brand new ASM G3 250g skimmer with the sicca (sicce sp?) pump.

I am wondering if the skimmer performs noticably better with the gate valve. I am leaning toward the gate valve because I can control output like my other skimmers without adjusting water height.

Is this true? Does it help performance a lot?
Is the gate valve worth the extra $70-80 when you factor in shipping?

Makes adjusting the water levels slightly easier than the stock standpipe, but does nothing for actual performance.

Good news.

It is performing amazing in my ruby 36 elite sump without the gate valve, stock straight from the factory. Getting a full cup every week.
