asm g4x skimmer question...what size intake pump?

my g4x has the sedra 9000 used as the recirc pump.

what would be a good size intake pump?
it was my understanding that if I used a pump that was too large (in conjunction with the sedra 9000 being used as a recirc pump) the skimmer would not work as well due to too much power (i guess))

Hey Mike you still need a pump equivilent to a sedra 9000 for intake.

I dont know what exact gph youll need as the G4X is a really tall skimmer.

A recirculated pump doesnt make the water level rise in a skimmer.

Do you have the gate valve mod? If you do all these mods you will be more than satisfied, I garauntee you.

Sorry to hear about that heater.

Sam

thanks, yes I do have the gate valve mod also.

I am not sure if I can use a pump with that gph. due to using the 9000 on the recirc mod. while it does not make the level rise, it will sure create a lot of bubbles I am sure???? and I am thinking that those bubbles will not have dirt attached to them. (happens sometimes on my CLSS125.

I had an ASM G2 with a sedra 5000 recirc and still feeding it with its original sedra 2500.

It is impossible to get that fine of bubbles in a ASM using sedra pumps, they are good pumps but not to the point where you are only going to have foam in the skimmer. If you were using red dragons, or Deltec, H&S eheim pumps than thats another story.

The dirty water will obviously come in through your venturi intake. The more bubbles the better to seperate the detritus and up to your collection cup.

Mike how about you feed your skimmer from an overflow, just use a Y. one down to the sump the other into the inlet of your skimmer use a ball valve and you will save 100.00 right there.

that is what I was thinking of doing, through advice of my fish counsel. But I did some reading and learned that it can be problematic as the flow from an overflow is not constant and can cause a skimmer to overflow.

Thats why you will control it with a valve.

It can loose water if your return pump were to go off and the overflow isnt taking water into the skimmer. But it will and it should never overflow if you install a ball valve.

Unless you open the valve all the way, then your skimmer will overflow.

:) thanks

I did not get into a full discussion with fish counsel (Gabe) about this yet, but you are correct and just resolved my problem.

thank Sam

Pffffft Gabe only know how to do things if you got the high end stuff;)

You are in good hands though with Gabe.:mixed:
