ASM Skimmer height

Does anyone know where to find the optimal water height to fun ASM skimmers at? I have a G1X and am trying to get it to run perfectly. Thanks.

try this thread....i seem to remember there being a chart

Water Levels

While I have never seen anything publshed from All Seas Marine, I would recommend the following.

Minimum: 4 inches, you need to make sure there is enough water in your sump to cover the pump, don't want to run it dry.

Maximum: A few inches lower than the where the cone starts. If you place too much water in the sump, you will not be able to control the water level in the skimmer with the riser. Based on this, the maximum water level will vary depending on the skimmer model as they have differing heights.

I have seen some others suggest that 6-10 inches is where you need to be.

Thanks. That's a good start at where I should be. I think I am running it a little high right now. I just built a sump out of a 20 gallon with a 10" tall baffle. I'm contemplating pulling the baffle out, cutting it shorter and putting it back in before I instal the sump.

Well I also have the fear of my tank overflowing the sump when power is turned off. My ATO bracket will be done on Monday and I am going to instal the sump that night. That's when I'll find out for sure if the sump will be usable or not. If not I will cut the baffle. If it is I am just going to build a platform for the skimmer. I really don't want that skimmer sitting higher than it is but it's better than cutting that glass out.

yeah, you need to 1st make sure your sump has ample room to contain power of/pump failure dump from the tank & then worry about skimmer depth from there

I'm going to find out by just installing it and testing it out. If it's not right I'll pull it right back out and put my old sump back in. That overflowing is a scary thought. Thats how fires start.
