ASM Skimmer Issue

I posted this in the monolithic "ASM Skimmer Club" thread. Maybe you guys have some ideas.

I've got an ASM G3 that I havent been very pleased with since I got it. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, the skimmer would flip out and the collection cup would overflow over night. I never knew why, I just figured it was one of the myriad snails or hermits dying and screwing things up.

While I was pulling the collection cup off the other night, I bumped against the gate valve mod pvc pipe and noticed that the level in the cup shot straight up. Upon closer inspection, where the pvc for the gate valve mod goes into the molded part of the skimmer, water was squirting out. The pvc is the perfect size to fit in the hole, but it looks like the molded plastic widens out, so the pvc can tilt one way or the other, which changes the level of the bubbles everytime it happens.

I've caught on now to at least adjust the skimmer where there is minimal water leaking out, so at least I can avoid an overflow, but the weight of the pipe and valve, and just the settling of the pipe, cause it to move over the course of a few days.

Surely someone else has had this problem and fixed it? Any ideas?

I have an ASM G1-X. I'm not sure if the design is the same, but my riser tube fits pretty tight into where it leaves the skimmer and a gasket ensures that nothing leaks out. I built my mod connected to that riser tube and haven't had any problems with it. Might you be missing an o-ring on the inside where the riser tube inserts into the skimmer? Also, is the riser tube inserted all the way into the molded part of the skimmer. Mine goes in deep enough that even without a gasket the tube wouldn't be able to tilt very far at all.

Thanks for the response Brian, I completely missed it. Someone else had the same suggestion on the asm skimmer thread. I rumaged around in the sump and found the oring. It must have been there for months. Its like getting a whole new skimmer.
